Not sure why y'all hell bent on defending something that achieves absolutely nothing and only creates bad optics.

It's a Christmas party. De-politicize it. Reward all your employees. And stop the woke crap. Average americans are sick and tired of this. Either we change course and come back to our senses as liberals, or we'll continue paying the price to the point that even fascists-wannabe like Trump will become more electable.

That's my take. Not worth debating this too much imo.

You couldn't even begin to define what woke means, how could you stop it? Just because a marginalized community wants to have their own party doesn't mean the ends of Western society are coming to an end. Average Americans aren't getting sick of this, you're just becoming close-minded. They're not becoming sick of this because it's always been this way, we've always had POC only groups, we've always had minorities preferring themselves to be with their own people. You're viewing this as bad optics because things like this have never been broadcasted at this rate before. You need to sit with yourself and ask why animosity is building up inside you and not any attempt to understand why marginalized communities do what they do. If not you're at risk of going down the path of a fascist-wannabe.

CHOMP.

They are relevant. The Christmas party wasn't segregated either; her plus one is white. The party isn't the problem; you and the people/publications framing it as segregated is the problem.

It’s literally segregated. The problem is your narrative. You pick and chose when something is considered segregated, though it 100 percent fits the definition.

I can’t with people these days.

“It’s not racist if white people are the victim.”
“It’s not segregation if white people are the ones not invited.”

“Equality is excluding white peoples because their ancestors excluded us for a very long time”

This form of thinking is very problematic in today’s culture. How are we supposed to truly get over our differences, when all everyone wants to do is seperate themselves by their differences. It’s not easy to get past history,  but this is not moving things forward. It’s creating division.

From my understanding, it's not a "no white people" situation at all. It's a party celebrating elected officials of color, but the woman's plus-one is white. There isn't a bouncer ready to turn away anyone without melanin. The wording of the party in publications is so uncharitable and honestly feels like it's in bad faith. How many parties like this throughout the decades have been white-only events by default because there weren't any non-white elected officials? Are we doing away with all events focusing on black and brown achievements? Is the Women in Stem conference disgusting for not including men? Until equality is achieved, there is a need for these kinds of events. The white Americans cosplaying as oppressed to complain about this need to be serious.

This this this! The article and everything I did read about this party is sooooo misleading. I see nothing wrong with what happened here

But racially segregating a Christmas party's attendance is different.

That isn't what is happening though, and I think you know that. This a very gross mischaracterization of the truth, and it's been something you in particular have been doing quite a bit on this site as of late.

Correct. Racism against white people doesn't exist. I so, so deeply in my soul need you people to learn what racism actually entails. It isn't just "I don't like you because of your skin color", it runs much much deeper than that, and it just isn't something white people face. There is no built in institution in our society that precludes white people from literally anything.

They were not even banned from coming to this very party.

Thank you. I was typing a response but I stopped when I saw this. My goal here is not to engage with people who I think moved too far to the left and can no longer be reasoned with. I think any rational person here can see what's wrong with your logic. Racism/discrimination against any race can exist and does exist albeit to varying degrees. That's all I'll say.

This thread is really not worth that many pages.

As soon as you unironically used the phrase "woke crap", the rational people stopped taking your opinions on this subject seriously.

Ironically, that statement itself is racist as hell. I guess according to you, Arabs didn't actually practise white slave trade and British people didn't accually terrorize Irish people? You have no idea what racism means.

Racism = discrimination based on nationality, skin colour, and ethnic background. There is no such rule that "you can't be racist towards white people".

That's a very reductive definition of racism as it pertains to racial dynamics in the USA. The working definition of sociopolitical racism requires an upperhand in the system of oppression. There is not a system of oppression against white people, so white people can not experience racism. They can experience prejudice based on their skin color, but that is not racism unless you're learning about it in 2nd grade (in a state that still allows it to be taught ofc).

The problem with today's leftists imo is they love to create new definitions/meanings of things that the average citizen views differently and they double down on it. Sure, you can go with this stretched definition of racism, but will your point come across if the average person views racism as discrimination on a racial basis? You've already lost the argument before it even started if the audience doesn't define things the same way that you do. Like you're trying to convince people that "prejudice based on skin color is not racism" :air:

And this is a persistent issue with the Left today and it's self-destructive, especially in election years. I remember stuff like "defund the police", and then leftists be like "well we don't really really mean completely defund, we mean reduce budget". Well then why not say that?  Why double down on wording that creates bad optics and try to create new definitions, rather than simply choose better messaging that can actually win people over. Same thing today with "River to the Sea", "we don't really mean genocide, it's aspirational". It's like they really love choosing the worst messaging possible to shoot themselves in the foot and alienate people. It's just mind-boggling.
