NCgaga 4,345
They Intentionally didn’t invite white elected officials. They even sent an email apologizing for accidently sending the invite to White officials. Our culture has gotten so twisted, that the idea of equality now means the opposite. It’s one thing to celebrate the elected officials of color, but it’s another thing to exclude the white officials. Like what…

Like what… No one is being excluded!! This is something a group of people are privately putting together. It’s not the work Christmas party, it’s not the city council holiday event, it’s literally just a group of POC convening 😭 like why do people have such an issue with this

They said I could come over and grab a plate but WHY didn't I get the cute little RSVP slip in the mail? I'm being oppressed. This is NOT a good look for The García's. Scar97 1,695
Continue to call it POC dinner or something, invite everyone and see who comes. Let me give you a hint: the white people probably stay home. And those who go get educated and appreciate their privilege . Then you avoid the backlash. It’s just called being savvy
TwistedTeeth 2,597
I, personally, don't see an issue with this. If my group of friends host a girl's only dinner then I'm not expecting an invite, nor would I blame them for not inviting me. If I make plans to hang out only with my gay friends then my straight friends get it and don't feel shafted. Why is a holiday party, that deals with no politics, a problem? It's not like they're sitting only POC electives in a court and excluding white electives from voting. It's a simple dinner. CHOMP.

Is the Women in Stem conference disgusting for not including men? These events are not only private (non-tax payer funded), but also not racially segregated. Say for example "Women In Music" billboard event. It honors accomplished women, but men do attend and cheer for their colleagues/partners etc... So your comparison is not relevant here. If you wanna have an event to honor POC employees, there's nothing wrong with that. There are many of those events and actually, everyone from the team is welcome to cheer for their colleague. But racially segregating a Christmas party's attendance is different.

Even worse lol. So if you're a white employee working your ass of for the city, not invited. But if you're an acquaintance of an invitee then you bypass that rule. Just terrible optics. Stupid things done by a democratic mayor that simply help conservatives prove their point at a time when we already have a lot of problems. No I don't think publications framing it are the problem. They called it what it is, a Christmas party, using city/tax-payer resources, that excludes white employees. I think this crap and this type of leftist excesses is what's helping conservatives at the moment. If you wanna host a party for only POC employees, get something going on in private using your own funds. But don't use taxpayer money to segregate your employees in a freaking holiday event. We have to wake up and do a course correction on everything, economy, social issues, immigration etc.. Because currently there appears to be a strong backlash against the democrats that people are even willing to elect a soon-to-be-convicted presidential candidate Polls released today don't show a single swing state where democrats are leading. Well, we completely disagree then. If white people are there and mingling around, then by definition it is not segregated. To conflate the 2 with the history of segregation in the US is wild. It is segregation of employees in a Christmas event, at a time when there should be unity. Being able to invite a white person as a "plus one" simply shows, that the right connections such as being the boyfriend of the mayor get you to attend the party. But if you're a hardworking city council member, you don't get that privilege. But anyway, if you don't see how this is just plain stupidity, not worth my time to argue about it. By the way, one (1) event where POC can mingle with each other is not segregation. You're missing several chapters of historical context and dismissing the struggles of POC throwing that word around as flippantly as you are. Are the white employees sitting in a sectioned off area in their office? Is there bathroom on the other side of the building, or perhaps forced to use an outhouse in the back? Are they being prevented from participating in political discussions with their POC counterparts and paid less because of their white skin? Are the white employees forced to sit in the back of the bus? Segregation wasn't just a little fence that could be hopped over whenever it was convenient; it was a total systematic separation based on skin that harmed POC down to the roots, dude. It affected who they can marry, it denied racial minorities healthcare and proper education. A lot of black people had to take the back roads because white people didn't even want to know of their presence; but you're upset that a white employee couldn't get a slice of cake? You're a wank off. CHOMP.

Not sure why y'all hell bent on defending something that achieves absolutely nothing and only creates bad optics. It's a Christmas party. De-politicize it. Reward all your employees. And stop the woke crap. Average americans are sick and tired of this. Either we change course and come back to our senses as liberals, or we'll continue paying the price to the point that even fascists-wannabe like Trump will become more electable. That's my take. Not worth debating this too much imo.
