Why is ‘The Edge of Glory’ aging poorly?

The song was a hit in 2011 - being top 10 worldwide. 

But based on current streams, the song is barely doing 100k streams a day while songs like Judas, Bloody Mary, Government Hooker, Monster, and Heavy Metal Lover constantly out-stream it.

It’s her 20th most streamed song, but Hold My Hand will surpass it soon.  

She even performed it at the Chromatica Ball, and people know the song but it’s interesting how a “flop” like Judas is doing 3x better than it.

For one, it's overwhelmingly too long by today's standards.

It also doesn't really pack a punch anymore. It feels kinda cumbersome and not as climactic as it did upon release. I can easily imagine people just skip to a next song midway through the first verse even.

I think the streams are low because the song is not having its tiktok moment sadly but also a song doesn't age poorly because it gets less streams tho

it's one of those songs that sounds amazing when you listen to the album in full because it's part of the story, but when you listen to it by itself outside the context of the tracklist it's not as powerful. still one of her best though

Because tiktok is not catching it doesn't mean it's ageing poorly 

In fact this song and most of BTW album are ageing like good wine. I would say they would have smashed anyways from the 80s till the 10s

the rushed single release sort of ruined its longevity but it’s still one of her best songs. 

plus to be honest - i don’t think a lot of people knew/ know it’s a Gaga song.  When it was released it was SO different than her other releases imo

It was a big hit, but was it iconic? Not really. And that's the main reason why it's streaming numbers are clearly showing it's got gaga stans only still listening & not really got ongoing GP buy in. 

Bloody Mary, HML, Monster all have tiktok to credit for their streams - Gov Hooker & Judas have as well to a much smaller extent. 
No one on TikTok is playing TEOG

It is strange, but Gaga's residual streams in general are pretty low compared to her peers.. Katy is getting pretty much the same daily streams but she's been N/A for years

it has not aged poorly, in fact it sounds more timeless than a lot of her other hits (which stream better because of the nostalgia of it all). the gp definitely knows this one but it’s just not as popular as her other hits — which she has so many of. one of them are bound to be #20

regarding hmh: teog came out before streaming and hmh was in one of the biggest movies of that year so streams are gonna be a little lopsided. just like how britney and madonnas best selling digital singles singles wouldn’t include some of their early big hits
