Back to basics if Neve, Courteney and Patrick are back

Not really liking Melissa Barrera situation. But I feel like Scream 6 was a good wrap for Carpenter sisters storyline tbh

At first I was really sad about Melissa and Jenna not returning but after thinking about it more, they have no purpose anymore. Their story is finished perfectly in 6.

I don't understand why they created such a mess around Melissa's departure and not just terminated her contract because of a creative decision.

Now they HAVE to get Neve (with Patrick) back, otherwise there is no real purpose of making another one, although I would also be really happy if 6 was the last one: Sidney has her happy ending, The Carpenter sisters and the rest of the core 4 are alive and moving forward, Gale is alive, Kirby returned and saved the day.

Not a bad way to end the franchise for good, but there is (sadly) always more money to make.

I mean Variety confirmed both Melissa and Jenna were originally signed to 2 movies (which explains Scream 6 ending with the the mask drop and the two sisters walking away).

I'm fine if we're back with Neve, Courteney, Hayden, Patrick being back as lead actors on the next one.

I’m confused.. they had no reason to terminate her contract due to creative differences. Why would they use that as an excuse given the context behind her firing?

I phrased it wrong, I'm sorry.

Both Melissa and Jenna had contracts for only 2 films so they would need to be signed again for Scream 7. They found out that Jenna was not returning due to scheduling conflicts and had already signed Melissa. It would make no sense to have Sam and not Tara in a next installment and I think that's why they are now focusing back on Sidney/Mark, the original cast. As I said the storylines for the 'new' cast are perfectly brought to an end in Scream 6. Imo they could've just said that due to a creative decision about the movie, we decided to not have Melissa returning in the next one. Instead they made a whole mess and fired her for her comments on Palestine.

Correct me if I'm wrong about anything tho.

They fired Melissa because of her comments on Palestine and Jenna dropped out of the film in support of her (I think)

Jenna was not meant to return at all and talked with studio about her exit months ago.

Not a big deal Scream 7 production is meant to start in March. Wednesday production will start in April. She just can't do both.

She was supposed to return in a limited capacity. That was the story months ago prestrike. She’s the biggest star they currently have. They would have just shifted their schedule to accommodate her. That is the business. The sources in all these trades are directly from the studio- so they’re going to spin this like it was always the plan.

She clearly didn’t want to come back anymore.

I’ll say this: they *say Jenna had scheduling conflicts coincidentally right after IMMENSE blowback to Mellisa’s firing? It’s been months in the making? Yeah sure…they’re scrambling to do damage control bc they shot from the hip and hoped no one would really care. So now they’re like we NEED Neve and the OGs back to save face and get asses in seats. There wasn’t even a script yet, how would there be scheduling conflicts? Plus, theyd have worked around her schedule to get Jenna in it. I just don’t buy the PR spin that Jenna just so happened to be busy and they announced it the day after the firing of Melissa. It’s just very very dumb and suspicious

There were actually big rumours about Neve and Patrick during the strike. And Neve never denied being back for Scream 7 when being asked before the actor strike.

During the promo of Scream 6, the directors also teased that making Neve back was already in the negociation area at the time.

So no it has like zero like with Melissa Barrera situation. Same goes for Jenna who was already highly rumoured not returning during strike time (or having a very small cameo). Jenna has like 4 different project entering in production next year.

The only reason for Scream 7 being rewritten is definitely the fact Barrera has been signed for a major role and fired. According to Variety they will just write her off and keep a big junk of scenes from the original script. And to be truly honest without any link with the whole situation. Barrera wasn't really necessary being asked back. Her story could totally be left where it is at the end of Scream 6.

On a positive note, this situation leaves more screentime for legacy characters such as Neve and Courtney. Honestly I feel like they were paid dust in the last 2 movies even tho it was refreshing to see new characters.

She was just quoted earlier this month saying that she cares about all the people involved but someone at the top only thinks about money- doesn’t take a genius to figure out who that person could be. That doesn’t really sound like something an actor would say if there were talks going on.

RAMROD

The franchise is dead regardless imho. Not many people who supporting recent cause will get over what they did to Barrera
