Far-right wins election in the Netherlands

The global trend continues.

Anti-Islam, far-right populist Geert Wilders, who has promised to halt all immigration to the Netherlands, is in the clear lead in parliamentary elections, an exit poll shows.

His election programme called for a referendum on the Netherlands leaving the European Union, a halt to accepting asylum seekers and pushbacks of migrants at the Dutch borders. It also advocated the “de-Islamization” of the Netherlands.

I feel like I see a lot of articles lately about far right winning elections in countries, or is it just my imagination?

I think Canada and US are also headed this way. Seems like people are upset at inflation, housing, and immigration issues and they want drastic changes.

So scary. Thank god the green left is second. I fear for the upcoming elections in Belgium…

The whole world is electing people like Trump and sending the same message, and it seems like the other side is in a constant state of shock, without even attempting to actually ask why.

People want change, but neo liberals still want to push the establishment, status quo, corporate rule, bottom down we tell you what to do, you shut up and take it, if there is an economic crisis we blame you and punish you for it and bail the rich..

The whole world is vomiting these policies, they hate it, they will elect anyone that promises something new.

I think nobody expected this big of a victory but it isn't a surprise either.

Immigration has been a hot item in the Netherlands for years. The PVV "owns this issue" (voters associate the PVV the most with this topic)

Other right-wing parties, like VVD and CDA, have been part of the government and failed to deliver what many people want (less migration).

Even normies are becoming right leaning or have the same talking points. Most people who like Trump arent even hard core right wingers, they are normies that voted for Obama. Its more cool to be a right winger today even with the new generation, and people feel like you will be more accepting socially if you are right wing. Its becoming the norm now!

Yes we’re next…. I honestly think just letting them govern will be the only solution to make them smaller again…. Since people will be disappointed when they wont be able to uphold their promises…. I feel lots of people are voting for VB cause they are angry and disappointed by the traditional parties

God I hope not. But it seems inevitable.

You are right.

In the Netherlands they published the results this week of a large poll among highschoolers (and students I believe) which showed an enormous victory for (far-)right parties if it was up to those kids.

Yeah and a couple of days we got polls showing the younger generation support Trump over Biden!

Yeah I think so…. It doesn’t help that the left sucks at campaigning…. Like what are those ridiculous patronizing ads Groen is bombaring me with on YouTube…. Racisme voelt niet goed! Recyclen voelt wel goed! Like no **** Sherlock. And don’t treat voters like they are stupid toddlers

I really wonder why the youth is becoming more right-leaning, though. Maybe because younger people tend to be more 'rebelous' and anti-establishment?
