Predominatly change has to be systemic. B*tching at rich individuals one by one to donate more aint gonna solve much not to mention ur example comparison is cherry picking time frames. U mentioned Cardi B entire accumulated net worth over many years and compared it to a single year worth of budget cuts. I sometimes see ppl do this too when they talk about the net worth of the rich (which isnt even cash btw) and compare it to the size of the deficit and money needed to cover certain programs... Several Decades worth of wealth accumulation > 1 year of government expenses. Highly misleading. PS: the rich SHOULD pay more taxes. Im not saying other wise. But lets keep perspective not fantasies

I mean you chose an extreme example here, comparing a kid from africa asking a middle class american for money, to a 80M$ networth celebrity apparently complaining about her cousins struggling when she could easily bankroll them if she wanted to. I'm not sure why you're missing the point. She was talking about her cousins struggling. You realize how ridiculous that sounds right? The fact that she's expecting the government to bail them out rather than help them herself. She has a collection of luxury cars that she doesn't need and complains about cousins needing a few hundreds/thousands? It sounds disingenuous. If my net worth was 80M$, I wouldn't wait for the government to help my family. As a matter of fact they wouldn't be still "living in the hood" (as she claimed) to begin with. If you're that rich and you can't help your own family, don't lecture anybody on anything. Enjoy your wealth and keep quiet. Spare us the moral lessons. The reason for the budget cuts is the immigration crisis in New York and has nothing to do with Ukraine or Israel. This is what the governor said. State taxes don't fund wars. She deflected on foreign wars because she's afraid of being canceled if she talks about the real reason. So if it's temporary because of the migrant influx, then people should help. As for "oh let's not blame celebrities and only the government", why y'all coming at Drake and Taylor for overusing their jets then? It's not banned by the government? You need to acknowledge that if everybody's gonna wait for the government to force them to put some of their wealth to good use, or protect the environment, or help the poor, then we're doomed. It will be a nightmare but people aren't happy. I mean yes it's a big problem, but not because of foreign aid though (which is still supported by a majority of americans, whether we like it or not). To put things in their actual context and not misleadingly deflect on foreign wars: the state budget cuts are related to the immigration crisis across the U.S (this is the reason cited by the NY mayor, he said he needs money to house the new immigrants: source). And I'd like to hear what you guys suggest democrats should do. Because even democratic voters are pissed: From WSJ: "75 percent of New York Democrats said the recent influx of migrants to the state was at least a “somewhat serious” problem. Nearly half (47 percent) said it was a “very serious” problem. 53 percent of New York Democrats agreed with the statement that “New Yorkers have already done enough for new migrants and should now work to slow the flow of migrants to New York.” (The alternative was that the state should “accept new migrants and work to assimilate them into New York,” a position with which 41 percent of the Democratic respondents agreed.)" https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/11/21/democrats-border-problem-is-getting-real/ So yes we know people are not happy about the situation. But what can Biden realistically do? If he shuts down the border, he loses progressives, if he does nothing, he loses the moderates. Republicans will not allow billions of federal dollars to bail out sanctuary cities because they demand immigration reform. So it's easy to be mad at Biden in this situation, but I genuinely don't know what can be done.

What does her net worth have to do with her calling out valid points about the institutional rot that exists in our country? Donate? Sure, that's great. But do you want to live in a society where the solution to every problem is rich people donating, or do you want to live in a society that is equitable from the start? Individuals should not have to donate to make things right. It's so similar to what happens with gofundme. It's crazy, because republicans have basically admitted that they think healthcare in this country should function like gofundme. I don't agree. I know Cardi has done problematic things in her past which I will not defend her for. But she is 100p right in this instance. She grew up poor. Yes, she's rich, but it wasn't that long ago that she was the opposite. She has a right to speak, especially when she's right. People don't want to hear it, so they attack her for stuff that's irrelevant. She's actually very politically insightful.

But then they wanna lecture the public on politics. You're not necessarily wrong, but it's more complex than this. Within our current paradigm, donations are necessary to help the less fortunate. But also, within our current paradigm, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Rich people SHOULD donate much of their wealth while we exist in this paradigm. But we can't just say that solves the underlying problem and refuse to address the issue that made it all happen in the first place. Telling rich people to donate is fine AS LONG AS you also believe in and fight for a long-term political plan to create a real level playing field in America. We can't just yell at celebrities to donate while being dismissive of the larger systemic issues. Do people have too much stuff? Yes. Most Americans are extremely wasteful and materialistic regardless of how much money they have. People will always spend their money. But Cardi B didn't create capitalism, she just learned how to exist within it. Can she donate more? Sure. But we can't let that idea obscure the other issues. They need more money to take care of the influx of immigrants: https://abc7ny.com/migrant-crisis-asylum-seekers-new-york-city-budget-eric-adams/14069043/ So I think charity should step in. Charity is good in the meantime, but it isn't a long-term fix. Americans have been brainwashed into thinking THEY are responsible for giving each other health care, homes, food, and charity. It's so ingrained in our culture, and that's just how the gov't wants it. There is nothing wrong with being kind to fellow humans--we should be. But we should also notice when we're being played and exploited.

We are too close to the next election to have any other candidate rise and gain enough traction to be a real contender. It's idiotic to think the choice is Biden or <some perfect candidate>. If you don't vote, that's a vote for Trump because the MAGA/GOP base is very loyal and will turn out no matter what. Voice your dislikes about actions/policies/age/etc... but at the end of the day, refusing to vote and getting Trump elected is not going to make ANY of those better. Trump is farther away from her on every single thing she's yelling about. Neoliberals saying for decades "now is not the time to criticize ourselves, stand with the corporate candidate or you're scum" is what got us into the mess that elected Trump and might elect him again. I'll vote for Biden again if it's Biden v. Trump, which it probably will be, but I will not stop criticizing him and speaking my mind, because complacency will continue to make us weaker in the long term. The rot is late-stage capitalism, just to be clear. I'm not read up on the migrant situation, but I take your word for it. I find it irrelevant to the larger point (not that it's unimportant at all, just that the perspective I was coming from was not about that specific issue). I would disagree that it's all completely unrelated. I understand what you are saying about NYC, it's not a problem magically solved, and it's not in direct correlation to Joe Biden. But I think Cardi's sentiment was about a larger thing, she maybe didn't articulate it well, but that was the point I thought she was making. I'm not saying the mayor could have magically received money from Biden taken out of the war budget, but that was not ever my point. The reality is that people are fed up. Whether you think they are ignorant or not is not going to change the fact that we are in trouble if we are not allowed to ever criticize Biden. All Cardi did was ask a question. Our world doesn't make sense, and resources are not fairly allocated. THAT was the point. And Biden is not helping, he is status quo. I voted for him and I'll vote for him again if it's the option, but if we continue to be sycophants for terrible policy, we will lose in the long-term. I know Cardi isn't an expert, not claiming she is, and not claiming she knows the intricacies. I can only speak for myself. I just find it interesting how people get so triggered when anyone says anything about Biden. idk.
