It shouldn't be on celebrities and the public to fund things that tax payers money should already be going towards. Also yeah she could spend half her net worth solving the issue temporarily.. but as soon as that money is used and the system stays just as broken, it will go back to being the same Okay but there are multiple crisises. The reason NY cut the budget has actually nothing to do with Ukraine. They need more money to take care of the influx of immigrants: https://abc7ny.com/migrant-crisis-asylum-seekers-new-york-city-budget-eric-adams/14069043/ So I think charity should step in. Roughhouse Dandy 13,608
I commend her for speaking out and getting her fans talking about the state of the country. We're in a nation constantly bragging about being the best in the world and pulling money out of thin air as soon as the war machine starts revving up, but when it comes time to help libraries stay open on weekends, suddenly we don't have even have Cardi B levels of cash to throw their way. Absolutely tax the rich but why should a mid-level celebrity have to donate to keep a public resource open in The City in A Hill? This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss. Debithius 6,056
Biden wouldn't have to send funds to Ukraine and Israel if the US stopped being interested in fighting proxy wars. These wars are not foreign.

They did it because of migrant influx. If we're gonna go down this path, then people will say "why keep the border open and take in more people when we cant pay for schools". That argument actually might hold better considering the cuts are literally a consequence of that and have nothing to do with "wars". I don't believe in shutting down the border, but I don't believe in hypocrisy either. Blaming the problem on something else other than its root cause for political convenience is not fair. She couldn't blame it on migrant influx because she'd be canceled, so I guess Ukraine is the convenient boogeyman these days to blame everything on. Plus, while there is an argument for not being involved in Israel's war, abandoning Ukraine would've ensured a quick russian victory and occupation of 40M people, which could eventually start a major bigger war that's even more costly. Would you have said let's not help Europe when Hitler was invading one country after another? So if you don't want the budget cut, you can either falsely blame it on Ukraine and "war machine" (this is not a war U.S started) and enable Russia to occupy 40M people or completely deny asylum to people which would be illegal under international law. Both positions would actually be selfish.

People love to **** on America for being evil (not denying) but peace exists in many parts of the world because the US exists, it doesn’t come blood free. That being said, it’s also the government’s job to do a better job of taxing the rich and helping the country, which they’re not doing! Cardi B grew up poor so she knows first hand what it’s like. We can’t rely on charity because nobody is going to freely give away 50% of their wealth to strangers. That’s where the government needs to step in. New York was just one example she used to show how Americans are struggling. Biden just sent 100 Billion dollars to aid two wars. Ok but idk why people are focusing on this It's giving "you're homeless but you have a smart phone? Hmm..." levels of stupidity. That 100 billion goes to protect Ukrainian allies against our Russian enemies. Admittedly it's a proxy war, but we can save lives there anyway and keep Russia occupied with banging its head against a wall. Israel can rot but I haven't seen the actual breakdown of what funds go where. God willing there's humanitarian aid for Gaza included in that funding. Not to mention, the projects we've funded have created vacuums in military power in other countries. Many EU states donated their older equipment to Ukraine and after seeing American equipment at work, they bought from the US to replace their donated stock. I'm not sure just how much we made, but on some level it's paying for itself. But that's all irrelevant tbh. If people are really concerned about struggling Americans, they'll push Democrats even further on funding the IRS fully and instating more comprehensive and airtight tax laws so billionaires in this country aren't able to basically steal/hoard billions and billions of dollars. Some of the biggest collectors of welfare are the richest people and corporations. That pisses me off a hell of a lot more than sending some military aid to allies. Our biggest problems are domestic and the biggest wealth sinks are the wealthiest people. 2 hours ago, Dennis said: I'm just sick and tired of cheap talk. All of these celebrities who wanna talk politics should set the example first. You can keep your wealth and keep quiet but if you wanna lecture the public on politics and how people are struggling then stop collecting luxury cars for dust and help. Put your money where your mouth is. Don't wait for the government to solve all the problems in the world. But they're greedy. They hoard money in their bank accounts and then they wanna sound relatable. I actually fully agree with this. No celebrity needs to speak up on an issue unless they're planning on becoming constructive and well informed activists on that issue. Cardi shows her ignorance here thinking we have to choose between funding our allies and feeding our citizens when we have the means to do both, but the rich (including her, probably) are stealing from us That's why I'm very happy that Gaga only speaks about mental health and queer issues these days rather than having an asinine "hot take" like this. So im assuming Cardi is in favor of that, and is the only celebrity that talks about it openly. America is not wasting all this money to save lives and do good! America provoked a war that led to Ukrainian lives being in danger, and now they are using the excuse to save Ukrainians to push their political power. America claims to be against Russia annexing Ukraine, but they just made a deal with Morocco to annex Western Sahara, in return they should recognize Israel. Israel another country annexing lands in Gaza. So I guess Cardis point is why waste all this money on horrible wars, when you can focus on helping Americans who are suffering. None of this is done to save Ukrainians, its done for political power and expansion. Ofikem 28
I see where Cardi is coming from. I know that Biden and the federal government don’t decide on budget cuts at the state and local level. However It’s the federal government’s lack of resources to these cities to handle the migrant crisis that’s led to said budget cuts. I don’t see it as realistic for anyone individual state or city to handle a national problem. It’s just horrendous to see our own struggling whilst simultaneously funding wars. We never have money to fund material improvements to Americans like education or child care but a war pops up and suddenly money grows on trees. I agree with the point that the war is explicitely endangering Ukrainian lives and constant unconditional military aid is in part the reasons why Ukrainians keep losing their lives in an attritional war with no chance of winning (they are being sold the hope that Ukraine will expand back to its Soviet-drawn borders, if they don't settle for a ceasefire). But NATO expansion also did some good when it comes to other Easter and Central European countries (granted, before Ukraine broke camel's back – but here is a reminder that not all of NATO's actions are to be demonized). ALGAYDO 35,085
As far as I remember, during the last presidential campaigns, Cardi and Halsey were the only celebrities constantly stating that the rich should be taxed a lot more in order to help the general public. They both kept saying that, yeah, they know they’re part of the 1%, but that they and all their fellow 1%s should be paying a lot more taxes to help everyone else. She was also supporting Bernie a lot before Biden became the dem nom for presidency. Cardi’s got a good heart and is smarter than most people give her credit for. Celebrities should do more. They say "tax the rich" knowing that it's not gonna happen, so it's cheap talk. First of all the materialistic mentality of wasting millions/billions of dollars on different version of luxury assets has got to stop, when there are people starving. They are celebrities. They can influence the culture. Enough with a private jet travel, enough with the car collections. Nobody is saying they should starve themselves or not have fun. But you don't need to take a private jet every time you travel. You don't need 10 sports cars sitting in your garage just for you to switch things up whenever you're bored. That excessive lifestyle is what's causing social inequality. We can wait for the government to fix, which it won't, or we can start a cultural change and shame these wasteful spenders. I'm no where near the level of wealth of these people. And yet sometimes I can't help but feel the urge to donate to college students on tiktok live and twitch knowing how difficult it was for me to manage college and personal finances. And it gives me more joy than wasting money on things I don't really need. Yes you're not obligated to help others. But if you're waiting for the government, it's not gonna happen. Money is power. These celebrities have a lot of it. They can change millions of lives if they really want to.
