Ontario Bans Work Experience Requirements, Require Salary On Job Postings

Last week as part of Ontarios PC Labor code update, Ontario mandated that all new job postings will require salary transparancy on their postings

 

Today another measure was announced mainly to help eliminate barriers for immigrants, in that Canadian work experience will not be allowed as a requirement for a job application

 

The new measure aims to make it easier to give educated and qualified people a chance to get their foot in the door for their first job to not allow lack of experience from making them even be considered as a candidate

 

Lack of experience may still work against you, but at the very least you will not be filtered out of an interview on that basis alone, giving you a chance to try and make your case in person.

Ford and the Progressive-Conservatives may be disliked for a lot of things, but i been following updates on the updates to labor code and they seem to be hitting the mark in a lot of stuff

From what I read, it’s Canadian-specific work experience that will not be required. So if say you have a cafe and want to ask that they have barista experience that’s okay, just that they don’t have to have done it in Canada. Which is still great!

I interpreted the wording of that a little differently

 

They appeared to be primarily targetting immigrants who cant get work as a consequence of employers wanting Canadian experience but it seems that in order to remove that barrier they are banning experience required in applications in general. I did not find anything that specifically mentions that only Canadian experience is banned. If u find that wording point it out to me so I can correct the OP

 

Also the point seems to be to give u a better shot at an interview and face to face consideration. They can still require experience to hire u. But by forcing you to meet the person before u ask, it gives them more of a fighting chance to make their case.

 

About the postings i agree. I always worked in blue collar work and salary postings is very much the norm. But i noticed in office or other proffessional roles its more common to withold that information. I welcome the move cuz u should not be pressured to take a job without knowing what ur getting. U could be taken advantage of and why should anyone take that risk? Its a contract and a relationship between worker and employer and both should come to an agreement, it should not be a dominance thing where u get whatever ur given

 

It will also force more competition between employers and god knows Canada needs more competition and productivity desperately

It's in the headline and first paragraph of the article

"Ontario plans to ban employers from requiring Canadian work experience in job postings or application forms, the labour minister announced Thursday, saying it will be an important step to help newcomers get their foot in the door."

If they were banning all work experience requirements they wouldn't mention Canada at all.

But it's still good for immigrants!
