ALGAYDO 32,499
I definitely didn’t think she was gonna be a highly successful and critically-acclaimed movie star, that’s for sure

(Don’t hate me ) I can’t help but feel that she abandoned a lot of her artistic integrity so that she could repair her fame and public persona, and that’s not really the true nature of an artist imo and I never would’ve thought she would do that, (but then we can't fathom the pressures of such extreme fame and fortune). I always thought that she would follow in Bowie’s footsteps and stay true to the revolutionary artistic pop star motif, constantly evolving and gradually perfecting her craft in a way that always kept it fresh and radical. So I admit I am not a stan of post-ARTPOP-Gaga. Joanne was an album Gaga has wanted to do, even during the Monster Ball. A stripped back, personal album was always in her cards. I think Joanne had more to do with timing more than defeat. She had a different album in mind beforehand, but played Joanne’s card when the timing worked- off of C2C. Gaga and Bowie were in completely different positions. Bowie was allowed to be an integral artist, his faults were overlooked. He also came from an era where he could continue his allure without scrutiny, annd every public movement wasn’t documented. Gaga is a female pop star, and everything she does moves along with her and is documented with a magnifying glass. Gaga doesn’t have the luxury to keep being Gaga the way Bowie could keep being Bowie, she has to be much more strategic. I assure you Bowie had his moments of fault that would question his artistic integrity.

Gaga will always blend sonics and genres in her albums- it’s a staple of a Gaga album, and what makes them interesting. I think jazz is more of an outlier for Gaga. You’re not wrong!!! It’s why I love Gaga People often mention that chromatica was “safe” in terms of production, similarly to The Fame with the euro pop sound and I do agree, majority of chromatica is house music. But there are those bursts of blending like with SFA having that drum and bass outro. And Babel having the intro and first verse that’s reminiscent of the Think Break… … before becoming a full on vogue (NOT MADONNA) track!! DoC, despite having little to no involvement from Gaga also has this too, like Replay ft Dorian Electra starting out as a dance track before switching to heavy metal influences then becoming the only hyperpop song we’ve ever had from her for its outro!!! lots of us here wish for a rock sound for LG7 (myself included) and I think a lot about Plastic Hearts by Miley. She had a lot of different sub genres on that album but they were all track specific. I think Gaga could really do something great by blending them within each song!!! It's not an artistic evolution but more just mimicking her old style But y'all get disappointed with Joanne? 🇵🇭༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽🇵🇭
Greg August 143
to be honest, i didn't really think about the future back then... it's kinda funny to remember those years! most of my family and classmates used to tell me Gaga was just a temporary attention seeker celebrity people would forget about in a few years but it didn't hurt me, i just laughed because i was sure she would never stop creating art in her own unique way! then when she won the Oscar, all those who told me i would get bored at her texted me like "omg, Gaga won an Oscar! you were right!" i guess the only thing i didn't see coming was all of her projects aside from pop music: jazz albums, major films, haus labs... damn, i'm so proud of how far she has come! I think she was pushing her pop artist persona to its absolute extreme during ARTPOP and I think she was very genuine in her artistic expression. I also think she was exhausted physically and mentally and felt as if she was doing the same thing over and over. I think her toned down expression is just as genuine. I don’t believe for a second that her label wanted two joint Jazz albums with Tony Bennett, they absolutely would have preferred another pop album from her. I think Gaga is still that theatre nerd who loves rock music and Jazz and loves performing. During the Joanne era she expressed that she missed performing in smaller, intimate settings which is why she did the Bud Light Dive Bar tour. I think Gaga is completely content and happy knowing she is considered one of the most elite artists/performers in the world and feels blessed that she can do her Jazz shows in Vegas and perform every week to a sold out crowd. I think that is just as authentic to her, and her artistry as a musician, as her dance pop eras with the heavy choreography, avant garde fashion and meticulous music videos. She loves signing Jazz and making movies.

She had such a force field around her perception wise- she had us believing she showered in high heels, and made grubby airports her catwalk. It’s only natural for her to shed some of her fanbase to make way for a more mature, larger fanbase. Some Monsters saw, and wanted Gaga as only a pop superstar. She very well could have stayed in that lane, at the expense of artistic growth. In a way her showing vulnerability allowed her to pivot to her actual superhuman strength- her sheer talent for show business. And it was a grassroots effort. The Sound of Music, National Anthem, Super Boel, honouring legends, critically acclaimed acting roles- I don’t think 2008-2014Ga could had made that work if she continued in the lane she was in. In a way, a culling of her fanbase made way for a more free artistic expression. Sticking to the formula would have lost fans long term, anyway. Exactly, artists should change. I’m happy she’s been able to show her versatility within music, I was listening to Angel Down the other night such a beautiful song. That was conceived in 2014 ! The pop star formula gets old eventually, there always has been misogyny towards female artists making a certain type of music and I think Gaga knows that. Her changing was the key to her longevity. We very easily could have seen a Gaga releasing pop album after pop album in a bid for relevancy. I remember 2009 people saying she was incredibly talented in other facets, but at that time it was only pop, and deep cuts of her with brunette hair at the piano. There were inklings of a triple threat that were drip fed to us over the years. Her destiny wasn’t regulated to JUST pop music. Her artistry in makeup, acting, jazz, pop country, are all just as integral to her creativity. There was a time when Monsters wanted to see Gaga branch into different creative endeavours.
