In 2013/2014, Where Did You Think Gagas Career Would Be 10 Years Later?

This is from 2015 I think, but I remember seeing these photos and thinking to myself, wow she might really retire from all the fame and success and start living a calm life away from the paparazzi. She is over it.

She'll never do an ava Gardner exit imo, she's show business.

Maybe I need glasses but at first I thought Asia and her watering can were heels and the barrel next to her head was a head dress so she was dressed like this :rip:

I know but it doesn't feel the same. It's not an artistic evolution but more just mimicking her old style

I do agree watching interviews back it’s crazy to see much she’s changed, like she was just so fearless back then. However, after 15 years in the business, fibromyalgia, numerous traumatic events, close friends passing away, plus who knows what else it has for sure taken a toll on her. In some ways I think when Gaga showed she was more human it alienated a lot of fans, I think they always viewed her as this superhuman who would always fight for them, but when she started to show she was vulnerable they didn’t like it.

Ye you're right she doesn't seem as fearless and driven.

Tho I don't think it's got to do with her showing more vulnerability. It's more about that intense passion for her artistry that slowly disappeared; that's what the fans don't like.

And tbf I think I always saw her as more human than most celebrities. Maybe because I found her relatable as a creative person.

Yeah her creativity and love for art drew me in a lot, I think she still has that it’s just her passion and focus is elsewhere at the moment. David Bowie had years of “selling out” where his albums/songs weren’t received well at all, he got back on track so I think Gaga will one day ! She even said that last year of how she hasn’t been more passionate.

well to be fair she has evolved artistically and her fans loathe her for it. if you think this is mimicking her old style then you’re probably right and she just can’t win with those pop fans who cling to her work before Joanne.

I agree she has evolved and who knows what will happen with LG7. What I was saying there is that she’s more treading familiar ground and copying TFM Gaga and BTW Gaga rather than doing something new (that’s equally as exciting as old Gaga). Does that make sense? I’m finding it hard to word it lol :mark:

I just hope that in the near future she has a second coming as the worlds most interesting pop star, and does something new and fresh that's as exciting and imaginative as old gaga and not so removed.

To be totally honest, I imagined her occupying a space similar to where Katy Perry is right now.

And that's not bashing KP, I just really didn't think Gaga would be able to pull out big hits again. I felt like ARTPOP damaged her brand enough that the chart-topping portion of her career was over.

Being on this forum during the peak Roar vs. Applause drama and the general messiness of ARTPOP's release, and comparing that to where she is today still baffles me. Such an on-the-nose example of "you may have won the battle, but I won the war" especially with how loud the "Gaga is over" crowd was at the time.

However, in spite of that, I didn't envision her pseudo-quitting pop music which is what she's done, basically. I never would have guessed that, in the ten years since ARTPOP's release, we would have gotten exactly... ONE pop album.

TBH -

1. I thought she would have more solo albums/singles/videos by now, and more an aggressive artistic output in terms of solo music, and more content in terms of her personal legacy as an artist and fashion icon. More of the path of Bey / Tay where they are solo-musically focused.

2. She surprised me with her incredible success in other areas (movies, philanthropy, JAZZ with Tony, makeup, politics etc) - Movies, being something I love and enjoy so much seeing her in, the most - and I am loving her success here, but definitely not the direction I thought she would go.

I am so proud of her and her growth. But 2013 me could never have predicted this path. I think everything changed with Joanne... people say ARTPOP was avant-garde, but the Joanne era was TRULY avant-garde in my eyes. That was when she truly blew me away with her unpredictability. It was like a complete 180 on everything she had done before.

TL;DR I would say 2016/2017 is actually when I truly accepted anything is possible with her so let's just go with it HAHA

Oh I was not thinking that far ahead back then. But I did think that in one or two years she’d be the first artist to perform in space :enigma:

I will say though, back then I would’ve fought anyone who said BTW & AP were similar. But looking back now, they kind of are similar. At least compared to what she did before that and what she’s done since. I’m just referring to sonics and how she blends genres on just about any one specific song from those two albums

This is a good take that I could never quite put into words.

She had such a force field around her perception wise- she had us believing she showered in high heels, and made grubby airports her catwalk.

It’s only natural for her to shed some of her fanbase to make way for a more mature, larger fanbase. Some Monsters saw, and wanted Gaga as only a pop superstar. She very well could have stayed in that lane, at the expense of artistic growth.

In a way her showing vulnerability allowed her to pivot to her actual superhuman strength- her sheer talent for show business. And it was a grassroots effort. The Sound of Music, National Anthem, Super Boel, honouring legends, critically acclaimed acting roles- I don’t think 2008-2014Ga could had made that work if she continued in the lane she was in.

In a way, a culling of her fanbase made way for a more free artistic expression. Sticking to the formula would have lost fans long term, anyway.

I think this is Gagas formula that monsters need reminding of. Gaga will always blend sonics and genres in her albums- it’s a staple of a Gaga album, and what makes them interesting.

I think jazz is more of an outlier for Gaga.

This truly is what makes Gaga so unpredictable, as soon as you think you know who Lady Gaga is something surprises the **** out of you.
