yes it's definitely part of that cryptic, super paranoid part of the fandom which thinks that every single post contains some kind of clue and despite the public knowledge of who she dated, thinks all of her songs are actually about someone completely different.

i'd say it's this. i don't think it's a huge criticism of people thinking she could be gay, moreso a huge criticism of people thinking she was in love with karlie, since they seemed to just be friends.

Anyways, the gaylors have been doing too much since midnights released. On their subreddit they act like Travis is evil and that the whole relationship is to promote 1989- as if she would even need that at this point.

Her fans have become so dehumanizing to her it’s honestly surprising that she has been quiet this long.  A year ago when she explained Lavender Haze, Gaylors were absolutely brutal and disgusting towards her since the song didn’t live up to their fictional confirmation of her being a lesbian. They’ll probably try to label this as “good try, Taylor”

If a male celeb is seen with a female the assumption is also made that they are dating and tabloids start talking all about it even if they turn out to just be friends. Im not trying to downplay misoginy but in this particular case i dont think thats the reason for her dating gossip

Yes, people are also similarly obsessed with who high profile male celebrities are potentially dating and basing it off merely being photographed together. Leonardo DiCaprio, Harry Styles and Pete Davidson are the most frequent examples. And regular people do it among each other too, particularly school students. I'm sure we all remember how everyone was teasing you for liking someone of the opposite sex in your class because you talked to them once or got partnered up with them for a project. And adults speculate about people in their local communities who get along well and spend a lot of time together (and I've heard some wild predictions over the years that never came true). There's a human impulse to assume that opposite sex interaction of any kind automatically equals romantic interest and gossiping is a natural instinct. Singers are also under the microscope more than other celebrities because they write about their relationships in their work meaning that they talk about relationships more than others, which is naturally going to encourage listeners to speculate and draw conclusions particularly if the ex's identity isn't clear and the artist makes a habit of writing about every ex. So, yeah, for Taylor to think this experience is unique to women and that everyone's picking on her specifically purely because she's a woman and they dislike her is a bit exaggerated.

as a lesbian, i can agree that it can get tiresome when people assume you're dating someone. People have acted weird towards me because i have a decent amount of male friends that i hang out with, and I've experienced men telling me they can change me. I think it can be a bit more stressful when you have a decent amount of people doing it and you're popular.
