Middle aged white ex military guy, what a surprise. So sad to see this happening all the time, the USA's fascinations with owning their own killing machines will always baffle me.

I read an article that said he was involuntarily committed to a mental health facility for two weeks just a few months ago. And he had made threats to shoot up a local military base. And yet he was still allowed access to all his guns. Maine does not have a "red flag" law to remove weapons from people who may be a danger to themselves or others.

It's all so tragic and I have little hope it will change. The NRA keeps the US in a chokehold.

I cannot for the life of me understand the right-wing political sphere in this country when it comes to gun violence. Australia passed reform after a shooting happened and no major ones have happened since in that country. Earlier this year a shooting happened in Serbia and a flurry of laws and regulations were passed in the country to prevent further shootings. Alt-right politics are so backwards on this issue; of course if you call them out they'll also gaslight you into believing that you're supporting Hitler since he banned a lot of civilian arms in Germany. (Also hypocritical because of certain alt-right ideals.)
