During Michael Jackson's peak he had smash hits and smash albums in every market in the world. There are many countries where Taylor isn't bigger than her nearest competitor. It baffles me to see this behavior on a Lady Gaga site who's had a much more impressive run sales and chart-wise outside of the US than Taylor will ever see. Like, do some research and look at individual countries. In my country, everyone knows what a Michael Jackson is. I can guarantee you more than enough people don't know what a Taylor Swift is. Is this the chart run of a MJ-sized act https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruel_Summer_(Taylor_Swift_song)#Weekly_charts It's not even a chart run of a Lady Gaga-sized act lol. Roughhouse Dandy 8,392
She's 100% and she should say it loud and more often. Streaming has given some people a warped sense of how successful newer entertainers are. It's good to remind the masses how likely it would be for 95% of today's artists to still be relatively unknown if they had to rely solely on radio, physical sales, and MTV. This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

SimonBaetens 6,745
I never understood the MJ hype. Sure he was very talented, but I never connected with his music. Plus, how everyone chooses to ignore the child abuse allegations just because it’s Michael Jackson baffles me. when you're lonely, I'll be lonely too / https://www.last.fm/user/SimonBaetens

Yas, the choreo is more fluid and sensual in this one. The VMA’s one is more hard and kinda a show off. I prefer the 95 studio version of Dangerous though. TheSine 6,090
Sure, people may be able to beat album sales and chart records like The Beatles or MJ in the future. That is inevitable. But they won't be able to beat how timeless and impactful they were at the time? I don't think so. No one can beat anyone because most entertainers have something new to bring to the table in their own way. "👁 Hate U" 💜🩷🩵

Natalia Kills 362
I'd actually put Madonna ever so slightly higher than MJ in terms of her long-term impact. Either that or the Beatles, Elvis or even ABBA (at least in Europe). Elvis in particular was the blueprint for MJ a male popstar, though MJ took that to a new level for sure. Realistically, there's a definite group of all-time best artists and then it's completely subjective which one of them is the best. It's hard for anyone to match them now because they had perfect timing on the music market, which was being flooded with new technology, fashion and video. Unless something drastically changes, pop stars are becoming rarer because we consume music differently.
