Streaming has given some people a warped sense of how successful newer entertainers are. It's good to remind the masses how likely it would be for 95% of today's artists to still be relatively unknown if they had to rely solely on radio, physical sales, and MTV. I dont think this is a bad thing. Internet and streaming makes it easier for ppl to make their own careers (or have more influence in their careers and exposure if they are still signed to a label) During Michael Jacksons era u were a slave with little to no hope of making it big if a record label dididnt invest in u... and radio also meant those artists were shoved down ppls throats while other artists who didnt get air time had a huge road block to becoming super stars (not totally impossible but way harder than today especially in Pop) Streaming and internet means ppl (the audience) have more influence and say over who becomes big not just a record label, success is also divided over a larger pool of artists a chance to share spotlight instead of a few large ones (tbh to me that makes a super star more impressive cuz they now have more competition) When ppl keep trying to use changes in the industry to discredit new artists success I laugh... cuz in my opinion in the part artist success was even more Corporate, planned and structure regardless of the fact many were nevertheless talented. Now the internet impeds Corporate Record Labels from having 100% control anymore over who gets big and who doesnt
