I might get hate for this but calling herself Joanne during the era was really weird

It was one of the most bizarre things she’s ever done Xoxo Joanne

My main issue with Joanne as an era is the fact that she tried to push a "regular era" out of what should have been treated as something different, à la C2C. Putting together a pop world tour with this material and vibe just did not work at all.

As an album, it's good but bland. It lacks flavor, and its production is muddled, it does not "pop."

Just Another Day is a masterpiece though, it is so full of life and character.

It worked though: back then (even before the super bowl etc), by showing another side of her art she gained a lot of new fans and respect she didn't have before

Perfect Illusion MV should’ve been released with the single - another Top 10 hit in the basket :vegas:

Joanne World Tour felt like a Greatest Hits Tour

A-YO should’ve had a MV

MR deserved a better MV

It is a good album, though I think it could've been executed way differently. My main problem with Joanne is that the songs are great but it just doesn't work as a whole album for me. There's way too many different styles combined, and playing the album chronologically sounds a bit off, the songs work perfectly on their own though.

My wish is for Gaga to create something like this again, but more raw. I think she had the intention to make a different sound but she still played it safe, like no song felt fully immersed into the genre she intended to execute as a result of trying to make it a bit pop-ish.

Loved the era regardless, she was doing a lot :enigma:

Just Another Day is a bop and the closest Gaga has come to Red&Blue era since pre TF

I would live for an album of JAD style bops

I'd prefer the album if the sound mastering was better. Everything feels constrained by the production and it'd just be so much better if the rock vibes of it were allowed freedom

This is my biggest gripe with the album. The sound is so full and vibrant when you listen to songs like A-yo and Sinner’s Prayer played live, but the album versions are a bit too dull/heavily compressed.

Battle 4 Ur Life

John Wayne & Perfect Illusion & Diamond Heart carry.

very well produced. Definitely would like a next time for Mark Ronson to produce for Gaga.

I actually liked A-Yo when it came out because everyone HATED it, but it didn’t age that well. It sounds corny to me now for some reason.

it was nice how she really was mainstream again with Million Reasons. it was kind of a sizeable hit. it was amazing to hear Gaga on the radio again even if it sounded like Dolly Parton. but I guess that’s off topic and not that unpopular opinion. lol :ladyhaha:

Def agree about JW, DIC, and PI. Gaga + Josh Homme really outsold.

Its in her top three albums (Born This Way, Joanne, Chromatica; in career order) for me. It has her best writing out of her entire career. I absolutely love Perfect Illusion and I think that is one of her best singles to date. I disagree that particular songs on the album hard carried the album; I think the entire album is a very solid and consistent album though with sounds that are not everybody's things. Its her most important album to date.

King of the Fall

I don't hate the album or anything but it has some very serious problems that prevent me from revisiting outside of the odd track. The production is meh, it markets itself as raw and emtional when its really not (Chromatica is a much more emtional album) it has a few solid tracks and plenty of filler or just straight up garbage like Come to Mama, it wants to be stripped back yet never really goes all the way, the whole Joanne concept is cool in theory but it never really works, the album cover is the most boring of her career so far.

Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long

Here’s another one: Joanne era has the best live performances (excluding tours, she’s always stellar), meaning tv shows, radio stations and so on. Her voice was so refined and she seemed so at ease performing 💕

- Joanne piano version should have been on the main album with the regular version as a bonus.

- AYO, Come to Mama, Hey Girl, DIC should all have been scrapped. Florence should have been featured on a different track - she would’ve sounded great on Diamond Heart, for example.

- Diamond Heart CARRIED and deserved a music video (I wish it had been the lead, SO GOOD). Just Another Day, Angel Down, Sinners Prayer, Grigio Girls are all amazing and highly underrated.

- The dive bar tour was one of her best gigs and I would loveeee if she did that again someday. 💙

Her management and her should have taken a "double release" approach to certain singles. Think of it like how certain artists (like Rihanna) release songs to Pop radio AND Hip-Hop/R&B. Take this, but do pop/country for Joanne. The fact that there was no attempt to get Lady Gaga at the CMA's always felt off to me.

It’s her only pop era without the word “Fame” in it where the majority of the action didn’t happen at the very beginning.
