LateToCult 41,839
Soccer fans in Los Angeles might be about to lose out on the experience of a lifetime. An ESPN reporter believes SoFi Stadium is “practically out” of hosting any 2026 World Cup games due to a disagreement with FIFA, the sport’s governing body. Stan Kroenke, who built the top-of-the-line stadium in Inglewood, is refusing to make changes to the playing area to accommodate soccer, which uses wider field dimensions than that of football, according to ESPN reporter John Sutcliffe. https://ktla.com/news/local-news/los-angeles-may-miss-out-on-2026-world-cup-after-rams-owners-dispute-with-fifa/amp/ Word among fans is that Las Vegas and Phoenix might try to jump in to replace Los Angeles as a host city. They both have state of the art stadiums and experience hosting large scale sporting events. The Los Angeles area has two other stadiums: the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl. If they are desperate enough to host the games they could try to offer them to FIFA. I think they even included the Rose Bowl in their initial bid while SoFi was still being built. Dallas is also heavily favored to host the final game. 🤢
weed 78,903
Part of me is like get a grip Stan Kroenke but part of me is like well idk how permanent they'd have to change it to accommodate soccer and if he doesn't want it then.. good for him. I support turning down FIFA the Qatar situation was a mess

Tranquil 155
Wait, but we been knew the stadium was not built to accommodate soccer games. I'm pretty sure this was known before construction on the stadium started. In my opinion, SoFi was always a debatable pick.
