crazygato 535
Her team have done a great job at choosing her singles and most of her releases were "safe" for a popstar. There's this belief that Gaga's music (besides her persona) is avant-garde and "out there". But I personally dont think that, most of her single choices were perfectly normal but good pop songs. There are exceptions though (Bad Romance, Bloody Mary, Perfect Illusion) that were risks and I admire her for releasing them but for the most part I think her releases are "tame" and perfectly normal. That's not a bad thing of course! That's why I love her music and pop music in general! What do you guys think?
Starmie25 19,170
Hmm, I would only call "Stupid Love" and "The Cure" her only safe singles, and oddly DWUW (sonically), but the rest are umm, quite out there lyrically, sonically, and VOCALLY (especially Perfect Conclusion)
weed 74,362
I think in hindsight they seem safe but in the moment they were not. The Fame in general, different vibe than was successful, then Bad Romance, Telephone, Alejandro, pushing the envelope more. Then Born This Way, opposite of safe, celebrating gays in 2011. then Judas, on Easter, very unsafe. Then Applause, a song that starts off loud as f*ck and is frenetic etc
nATAH 50,410
back in the moment, not really judas absolutely was not a safe choice, especially releasing it on easter weekend... if TEOG was the second single, it would have been a lot safer and maybe performed better in the long run mother, what must i do? Perfectly safe. Nobody even remembers Judas on Easter and was a random rush release that flew under the radar, I would say BTW was more controversial. Gaga stood out because she was a mystery - not because she was ‘quirky.’ i feel like no one knew where she came from or what she even looked like

It was perfectly fine, it was just that she kept releasing upbeat club pop songs and after a while it sounds about the same, TEOG sounded different enough but still pop to keep people interested. Oriane 21,148
I mean, it's the point of a single. Catering to more people to make them interested in the album and the artist. Electro pop is rather hyper/crazy but Gaga combined it with an "out of this world" persona. The other girls were just acting sexy and normal.

TimotheeChalamet 5,843
That's kinda how you survive in music industry nowadays, if she released something like Teeth, Sex Dreams, Replay etc her career would've been be over years ago Her singles sounded different from anything on the radio even 15 years ago tho
Jester 6,365
Since ARTPOP, yes. Especially lead singles. Aura was supposed to be the lead, but the safest song on the album made it instead. Perfect Illusion was one of the weakest songs on Joanne, but still a safe choice because they were scared to put out a ballad or a riskier song as the lead. Stupid Love - some of Gaga's simplest and least meaningful lyrics, simple melody, safe af. When they had songs like Rain On Me, Alice, Replay, Enigma, 911. Decodekid 28,392
Not all of them. I wouldn’t call Bad Romance safe at all, neither Born This Way, Judas… Long Live Gretchen

Judas wasn't perfectly fine in its concept. She literally had rallies on certain countries because some were offended by this song. Judas was one of the singles that I wished wasn't released as one because it's obvious that the label wanted that "rah-rah" sound of The Fame Monster. For the rest of the songs especially during ARTPOP, I agree that they have been playing safe with the singles they choose. They could have gone with Replay or Aura. warhol killer ✴ GAGA¹⁵
