Also if a live version surpasses a studio version (which, in my opinion, this does) really tells you something about the artist

I think the nasal vocals is her attempt at sounding like ella fitzgerald. I noticed a lot of new female jazz singers have been doing it and its annoying. Her voice before was uniquely hers.

I 1000% agree Cheek 2 cheek was absolutely fabulous the vocals were soulful and the looks were camp and elegant at the same time! Love for sale just did not hit the same 😭 ugh I love this wig on her for jazz 🤩 I personally love when they did “But Beautiful “

I prefer this style as well, but it is a less polished jazz sound than what she puts out now. She uses more technique now and a certain nasal style that I think she has just latched on to or prefers. This is more of a pop vocal set to jazz music, where as now she uses more of a jazz vocal

In her current performances, she's lost a lot of her mix and moved almost all of her sound into the front of her face. When I was studying musical theatre in college, they taught singing to us as basically getting the sound to resonate in certain bones and areas of our body - some of it was conceptual, but some of it was actually physical. Think about how hard of hearing people can listen to music through their teeth, by biting onto something that's making noise - the sound actually travels through your bones.

Your voice changes depending on where you 'send' it and she sends it straight forward into her "mask", which is the nose, cheeks, and eyes. Like, if you were to touch her face while she was singing, you'd probably feel the bones in her cheeks and forehead sort of shaking or reverberating.

I wish she'd drop it back down into her chest a little bit, or even polish up some of her head voice and work on balancing out her mix again. She has a very unique chest voice and she used it so well on songs like Bang Bang - again, if you had your hand on her chest while she sang that song way back when, you'd likely feel her ribcage and collarbone really buzzing. She needs some of that again, it opens up her sound a lot and gives her a lot of color and soul.

her best vocal ever

the placement is superb, the tone is on point, her voice sounds so resonant here

Agreed. Any time i wanted to show someone how well Gaga could sing, Lush Life is perhaps the song i went to most to prove it
