Legendary songs that should've reached #1 on the Hot 100

There are many timeless and legendary songs that I'm surprised to discover never reached #1 on the Hot 100. Obviously the most obvious case for us is Bad Romance. So I'll include that one. My other pick is Michael Jackson's Thriller. What are yours?

Janet Jackson also had one, Rhythm Nation peaked at number two. She had many number ones, four from that very album (the only album in billboard history to have seven top five singles).

But Rhythm Nation as a song, which many would consider Janet Jackson’s signature song, stalled at #2.

It has always bugged me that BR and the album The Fame never went to number one. I wonder if it would be possible to have some kind of orchestrated campaign to get Fame a number one for even one week but the moment has probably passed since she already released all her anniversary stuff.

It's not that I'm a fan of all these songs but they are blatantly songs that were so massive everywhere else but surprisingly didn't hit the top spot in America and they were by singers who were huge at the time:

Madonna - Material Girl (#2), Hung Up (#7), 4 Minutes (#3)

Michael Jackson - Thriller (#4), Smooth Criminal (#7)

Mariah Carey - Without You (#3)

Britney - Oops! I Did It Again (#9), Toxic (#9), Everytime (#15)

Xtina - Dirrty (#48), Beautiful (#2)

Beyonce - If I Were A Boy (#3), Halo (#5)

Rihanna - Pon De Replay (#2)

Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop (#2)

Adele - Skyfall (#8)

Lady Gaga -

Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud (#2)

Dua Lipa - Levitating (#2)

Doja Cat - Kiss Me More (#3)
