Helxig 45,336
Damn we are so luck our minimum wage is $22.70NZD which is around $18.22CAD ($13.51USD/€12.69 for those of you who are curious and bound to ask ) And I really need to count my blessings and check my privilege that I generally earn around an extra $10 an hour on top.. ****ing hell. I need to shut my mouth and never complain again (although the cost of living is really high here now. But also.. I believe Australians earn even more money on average and have a lower cost of living than us! Which is why so many kiwis are immigrating to Aus now) I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Once I was working in room service and a woman with an American accent asked me "do I add the tip or is it included?" Had to explain that no it's not included but while tips are always appreciated, they're not necessary or expected here Do you feel him sir?

Apparently health care professionals in Aus also get paid 2-3x what they get paid here.. so we are seeing large amounts of doctors and nurses leave for a much better life style which is contributing to our constantly worsening medical system but I can totally understand why Also yes I know. Americans find it impossible to understand paying a liveable wage vs surviving on and relying on tips to survive. Insane that businesses rely on the public to pay their staff and not the business itself I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Insane that businesses rely on the public to pay their staff and not the business itself I will say any restaurant I’ve ever worked at would have gone under had they suddenly been expected to pay their servers a wage that they’d take to continue doing their job. Or your tab at that restaurant is suddenly going to go up by 30%-50%. I can make the equivalent of $25-$30/hr serving tables at the right place, but a restaurant could never afford to suddenly pay their servers ANYWHERE near that (or honestly anything worth dealing with restaurant customers/atmosphere for lol). It was a system put in place in America by someone a long time ago, you can’t really blame any current business owners for it, especially since COVID with all the increasing costs of operation The way I see it my job is my way of taking or benefitting from the wealthy people in my area (the DMV in the US) as most of our clientele are very well off anyway so an extra $15+ on their tab is nothing to them British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS
Ayesha Erotica 1,924
Minimum wage alone is meaningless if we do not consider how much taxes need to be paid for the government afterwards. Because what matters is what people have in the end left. Florida has a relatively low minimum wage but it is also among the Top 3 of least-taxed states in the US ( https://taxadmin.memberclicks.net/2022-state-tax-revenue ) and if Florida were a country, it would rank among the countries with the lowest taxes in the developped world. So, if you are for example in Belgium or Germany where taxes are around 50% ( The OECD calculated each country’s tax wedge - the gap between what employers take home in pay and what it costs to employ them, including personal income tax and social security contributions. Germany had a tax wedge for single, childless workers of 49.4 percent, behind Belgium at 54 percent. That means nearly half of a single person’s income goes towards taxes and social security contributions in Germany.), this must be reduced from your wage in the end. https://www.thelocal.de/20170411/germany-has-second-biggest-tax-burden-worldwide-report-shows So if you are in Belgium and have to pay 54% of your minimum wage of 10€ per hour, it is less than 5€ in the end. (the 54% apply for the median, lower income may be taxed differently) In Germany it is 6€ in the end after being exploited by state governments 49% money stealing. (the 54% apply for the median, lower income may be taxed differently) They are worse than Florida. There are higher taxes in Canada than in Florida and more highly qualified people migrate form Canada to Florida than from Florida to Canada in %. Florida is working-wise superior to many other states and countries and attracts many people because it has a lucrative system. Or to be clearer, speaking in economic terms: Florida is shîtty if you don't have a job b/c then u are poor and no help and so. But if you have a job in Florida, you are in regular cases better off than Europe (excluding Switzerland) and Canada, and richer. Switzerland >>>> Florida >>> rest of US (except for two other states) & Canada >>> Europe (though USAs worst states surely are worse than average Europe). (Solely judging in economic terms, when we take in other variables things become too complex) ______ To Canada: Well, we shouldn't forget there is inflation and so, energy prices sky-rocketing. The minimum wage going up is more a reaction to increased prices. People in the end won't have more money effectively left, it just serves to catch up to balancing inflation. Hope they keep ahead of the curve unlike ontario did Although given the biggest issue with affordability is housing... theres no way to make life affordable with wages... In a world with a severe housing shortage where theres more demand than supply, the markets always bid some people out. The result is that if wages rise, housing would rise proportionally U may be able to help the poorest ppl catch uo closer to the middle at least. But life will never be affordable for average Joe until they fix that issue no matter how hot the economy gets and no matter how much you redistribute wealth
Ayesha Erotica 1,924
I am surprised that Québec is not leading the nation in heaving highest minimum wage, and trails behind its rival Ontario. This is a bit unusual. It should subsidize some of its spendings with money from other provinces and somehow afford having 17 Canadian dollars per dollar to make an example.
