Genuinely thought this was an opinion thread/rumour/joke before I clicked on it. What a bizarre choice of headliner...

I was convinced it was Miley's time. Or Metallica....or Elton John...or Dolly Parton...or Drake...or even BTS. So many directions they could go in which makes this a really weird choice.

Aw I love when I can get excited for a halftime but not this year I guess :noparty: I like some of the Usher songs but I'm just not interested in seeing him. Also if Shakira and JLo had to split their halftime why does he get his own? :awkney: Just odd.

The disrespect...

Usher has 9 Hot 100 number one hits, 18 top 10 singles, a few number one albums, and sold millions of records. He's a great singer and dancer. A few of his hits are collaborations, so there's opportunities to incorporate guest artists too (Ludacris, Alicia Keys, Pitbull, David Guetta, to name a few). Usher is a great choice for a Super Bowl halftime show. Just because he hasn't had a hit in a few years doesn't really mean anything, he'll definitively be appealing to a big percentage of Super Bowl viewers. There's a reason he recently had a Vegas residency and has been performing at events like F1 for years; it's because millions of people like him and grew up listening to his music.

Let me clarify

i was speaking about how black pop artists get called r and b artists even when they make pop. My bad!

Why are you comparing their #1's?

Also I disagree with that, I mean I don't think Bruce Springsteen and The Rolling Stones were trying to be 'Relevant'. and if we are on this topic, You don't necessarily even need to be relevant to be an artist, countless indie artists have their careers.

Gaga has even said herself she wants to be 'relevant and Irrelevant at the same time', so I don't really think she went into it with that perspective, like at all.

You brought up Gaga’s hits? Lmao

Oh I see. That is something I've noticed as well and it's so disrespectful to the artists integrity and I think at least a bit racist.

I did, it was relevant to the conversation. I pointed out that Gaga had the hits to play the super bowl? I wasn't comparing her accolades to other performers as she's more decorated then some and vice versa.

I see I see, valid points were made honestly we just arguing semantics and nuance here because Lady Gaga and Usher are both big enough artists to headline. It has been a lot longer since Usher had a hit, whereas Gaga had a hit four years before hers.

Confessions is a CLASSIC. I just don’t know if he has what I would call a decades spanning career that would justify the Superbowl. He is a great performer though so hopefully the show is great. PLUS….he is a huge Janet stan so just bring her on and it’ll be game over.
