Cruelty 5,225
Bemused locals watched on as an estimated 2.2 million litres of red wine (equivalent to an Olympic pool) flowed down the streets of this small Portuguese village. The wine flooded the basement of one house, although much of it was diverted into fields, allaying fears that it might contaminate the nearby Cértima river. Levira commented "The causes of the incident are being investigated by the competent authorities [...] We are committed to resolving this situation as quickly as possible". I'd like to point out that Levira is the name of the distillery. The town is actually São Lourenço do Bairro, but then again if I wanted high quality journalism maybe I shouldn't use PopBase as my source Although this news is objectively hilarious, it actually put me in mind of the London Beer Flood of 1814, a similar incident where hundreds of thousands of litres of beer burst from a distillery's tanks, escaping into a nearby slum area where, tragically, eight people were killed.
