Should TCB do a Taylor-style theatrical release?

Taylor Swift has really changed things up by skipping distributors and negotiating directly with exhibitors to put her tour in theatres.  One of the reasons was because distributors wanted to wait y tim the tour was complete before showing the film. It’s obviously too late for Gaga to release the film while the tour is still going, but do you think she should release in theatres now? AMC is apparently looking for similar concert films so they might be open to a similar deal. Would the comparisons to the Eras tour be too detrimental because it’s doubtful anyone could match that popularity and level of sales?  Or would the halo effect of people paying for and going to a concert film spill over and actually help TCB’s sales? Also, it was such a limited tour with just 20 dates. I’m sure there is interest from many people who couldn’t make it to any of those few dates. Would it be a good move for Gaga or no?

In order to speculate about this we first have to know if TCB will actually be released, we've been down this rabbit hole before and it ended in great disappointment.

Drag me but I can't see it attracting anywhere near as much attention as the Eras Tour is. I can't imagine it would be cost effective in 99% of theaters

I went to see concert shows of artists with way less mainstream appeal (Muse) and the local theatre was full. They did a limited amount of screenings, but it was a worldwide thing.

Acts like Muse, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran who have limited releases will have a stronger cult following than 2023 Gaga does

I actually think it would hurt her to release theatrically. It will always pale in comparison to Taylor's box office and if it's truly low it actually stands to hurt her film career, which I suspect is a priority for her. Even though they don't seem comparable, trades will conflate the concert box office with her "draw" as a leading lady. Trades have already made reference to Taylor's concert box office outpacing the entire runs of Cats and Amsterdam. Imagine that in reverse. Weighing Joker's prospects in relation to how the TCB film did, one way or the other. At this point she has a sure hit (ASIB) and a lukewarm performer (HOG) made excusable by the pandemic. If TCB was a bomb, it would look like her draw has declined. It should go to a streamer.

This is a reach. It's a tour film, she's not doing a "for your consideration campaign".

Give it an LA/NYC/CHI/HTX/ATL showing, make them events with a pop up shop and Q+A's, and call it a day. The right moment for a large release has passed and it would only give both the annoying LM's as well as stans of other pop women ammo to be needlessly critical.

She might already stroke a deal with some studio, so unless the initial plan was indeed to release it in the cinemas, then it might have been too late to do that. 
 

It would have been nice experience. Especially if the premiere was released in many cities in the same time. You know, same exact hours regardless if it was night or day on each parts of the world.

She can't release until the strike is over, and even then I'm betting she already has an agreement with a streamer. I would love to see it in a theater, but I don't think it was ever intended for them.

I don’t think anyone thinks it will be near the success of Eras tour, which is a record breaking phenomenon, but it doesn’t have to approach that level to still be a normal success. I’m not saying we need to match it, but maybe it could also be successful in its one lane.
