They're stupid moving that Exorcist movie - people will always go see a horror film no matter the quality, especially in October.  It doesn't have to go number one and would eventually make bank over time. They need to get rid of every CEO in Hollywood, it seems everyone has only gotten greedier and stupider over there.

it makes perfect sense.... the studios had nothing to do with the movie, why would they get a piece of the profit for doing something that can be done directly without involving them

They actually aren’t. Like at all. Looking at showtimes for the eras tour movie…even the mass of the GP is selling out screenings. Just in my area 2 theaters have screenings full for the first half of the week it’s out. Some people buying multiple tickets to go multiple times too. 

Eras will 100% be #1 at the box office and the studios do not want to risk messing up the Exorcists chance if that. Not to mention 1989 will come out near the end of the movies show run so if the demand is there, I’ll continue into November as well.

It's like the millioneth Exorcist sequel, not anything with huge ambition behind it. They should just release IMO, people will still show up, and it's a much different genre than Taylor's thing. 

That said, I don't even care about either of these things that much, lol, it just seems like the studios keep holding things back, when at the end of the day, the movie-going public loves horror, and if the eras doc is going to be big, it's going to dominate for a while anyway, so the glory of going #1 wouldn't be feasible anyway.

Why is Taylor constantly sticking her nose into everything to "fix" or "revolutionise" it (according to her). Fair enough if she stays in her music lane but she is a guest in the movie industry. Remember how she tried to get All Too Well's 10 minute short film version into the best short film category at the Oscars? The academy put their foot down on that one. Perhaps this entitlement is what is stopping her many soundtrack songs from getting Oscar nominations? I'm still shocked that Carolina not only failed to get an Oscar nomination but barely won for best song at any other movie awards. That was a great, well-written, mature Oscar bait song and it got paid dust. Even though music is where she excels, the movie industry for some reason doesn't want to award it and maybe deals like this are what's part of it. When you're dabbling in other industries, you must play by their rules and not tread on any toes. The fact this was all dreamed up in secret and surprise announced when movie companies thought they knew what the schedule was and had all their hopes pinned on a movie going #1...that is not on. Taylor would be livid if she had her album release announced and all set up to go #1 and then Adele surprise dropped an album on the same week. Oh, but because it's not her industry and doesn't negatively affect her, it doesn't matter, right? She probably even picked the Friday 13th date because she was born on Friday 13th without thinking that would be the day that horror movies want to be released. Everything about this is a "me me me" move. I really don't see what there is to praise. It would be interesting to see if the reaction would be so positive if it were a male singer that was disliked here who did this.

The reason they moved it is because it's tracking terribly in audience engagement metrics as is and its test screenings have returned very troubling results. It doesn't have the support to stand up against something like The Eras Tour film.

The budget has also reportedly been inflated because they've done reshoots to try and fix the complaints of the test screening. They're also facing the battle of audience interest being exceptionally low compared to other horror films coming next month. It was in a precarious position before Taylor even announced, especially with Five Nights at Freddy's and Saw X following just a couple weeks later, both of which have seen far more engagement from audiences. This new release date is the only shot Exorcist Believer has. 

It's more than likely going to perform below what Universal and Blumhouse wanted. Budget hasn't been released yet, but if it's even at all beyond a conservative mid-range budget, they're kinda screwed. Remember this is the first of a planned trilogy, they've already sunk investment into it's sequel, and they paid $400 million for the rights. 

Tickets go on sale soon so we'll get some official tracking numbers but so far, it's not looking fantastic for the film and it wasn't even before Taylor announced.

I also wonder if the strike is a factor here. Swift is a SAG member, I assume, and even though this is a tour film (i.e. she's not participating as an actor) distributing product through one of the major studios currently targeted by the SAG strike seems a bit scabby.  This move allows her to sell the film to theaters (an innocent victim in the battle against the major studios) without offering product to the studios to offset their strikes losses.

I’m not sure Taylor made a move with this much foresight; honestly I think she just did what she needed to get the best deal. That said, I LOVE that she is costing the studios a lot of money right in the middle of a tender time when the strikes are really starting to affect them; any money spent during this time really hurts, especially by surprise in order to move releases around

I think it’s cuz of  the movie soundtrack songs- Shallow, ARUTW, Hold My hand. Even Billboard mentioned it in one of their articles- either they have to remove those songs or just wait till the strikes are done( which won’t be anytime soon)
