The Weeknd's 'The Idol' canceled

“The Idol” — HBO’s controversy-ridden series from Sam Levinson and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye — has been canceled after one season.

“’The Idol’ was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response,” said a spokesperson for HBO. “After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.”

Overall, the show was poorly received, with a 19% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

I watched this show and yeah it was not great or anything, the acting was pretty mediocre outside of Lilly Rose Depp and the script was atrocious but I did think that some people were taking things too seriously and overreacting as if it was a giant scandal or literally the worst thing ever created when I just thought of it as a more shitty version of Euphoria, Sam Levinson is a bit of a one trick pony.

It's just a cringe and try hard, but hollow inside. It feels like  they are trying to test how far they can go with explicit and shocking stuffs on mainstream media, in the most offensive way possible.

Watched the entire season; I tried so hard to like it but it was horrific. I hope to see Lily Rose Depp in another role because they did her dirty with this show.

Deserved tbh. It was kinda fun watching it, but only because the acting and the script was sooooo cringey, but not in a fun campy way. It was just bad acting and bad writing.

It’s not too bad but The Weekend’s character was what ruined it, it’s as if he threw a bitch fit that the story is about someone else other than him.

The way The Weeknd made himself soo unlikable with this show.  Tbh imo there wasn’t anything likable about him even before this show existed.  His music is good, but he himself is so empty and hollow feeling , honestly idk why he got to perform at the superbowl . He has zero presence

I think the show has done him more harm than good because he's so guarded in real life, the first time a lot of people have even seen him talk is in this show! Playing a character like this could be detrimental to his career if people start to think Tedros and him are one and the same
