Il y a plusieurs féminismes: le tien est très ouvert. Quand tu avais accompagné Lizzo dans un strip club en 2020, certains t’avaient accusée de défendre “l’exploitation des femmes”.

Évidemment que je suis contre toute exploitation. Mais je vois aussi qu’on critique sans arrêt les choix que font les femmes. Le terrain est miné de base. On se fait slut-shamer pour tout et n’importe quoi. Et avant d’attaquer les gens, qui s’intéresse à leur histoire? Alors, pour moi, c’est super important de respecter les choix des femmes, quels qu’ils soient.

 

Tes titres ont souvent été utilisés dans RuPaul’s Drag Race. Tu es clairement une icône pour la communauté LGBTQIA+. Aujourd’hui, la question du genre suscite beaucoup de violence.

L’homophobie et la transphobie sont voisines de la misogynie. Beaucoup de gens, au fond, ont juste peur d’eux-mêmes. La liberté des autres les met face à ce qu’ils n’ont pas le courage d’exprimer. La beauté d’un être libre, vrai et fier, les tétanise.

There are different kinds of feminism. Yours is quite open. When you accompanied Lizzo to a strip club in 2020, some people accused you of supporting the “exploitation of women”.

Obviously, I’m against any kind of exploitation. But I also see this endless criticism of women’s choices. It’s like navigating a minefield from the very beginning. We’re slutshamed for everything and anything. Does anyone think of people’s own experiences before attacking them? So, for me, it’s really important to respect women’s choices, whatever they are.

 

Your songs often feature in RuPaul’s Drag Race lipsyncs. It goes without saying that you are an icon for the LGBTQIA+ community. Today, the question of gender arouses a lot of violence.

Homophobia and transphobia are neighbors of misogyny. Many people, deep down, are just scared of themselves. The freedom of others forces them to come to terms with something they are too scared to express. The beauty of a free, true and proud being paralyzes them.
