It would be if the Alejandro video were totally different. For that reason I think either Teenage Dream or Future Nostalgia pique it

But that music video is genuinely iconic, it was the first big "lets cancel Gaga" moment

I know what you’re saying. I was personally somewhat disappointed by that video because I wanted something more narrative like BR and Telephone. And the build up for it was so big, they were teasing it on network TV.  However it still made a lot of noise and impact and generated so much news. The song was also a hit. It was still very much an example of Gaga in her imperial phase where  everything she did was breaking news.

yeah I don't hate the video although i think it was wrong for the song, wrong for the moment, and wrong for what anybody wanted from gaga at that point. it was a sign of the artistic self-indulgence we'd see a lot thru gaga's future career tho.

it put a lot of people off. i remember even some of my friends who were hardcore monsters thought she'd gone too far with the symbolism, and they still havent returned to her to this day

There was a theory that both Paparazzi and Telephone have 8 letters so Americano (8 letters) was the continuation. :partysick: Then we got Aura and it also kinda fits the theme but who knows. Gaga is so random it could've been Dope or Angel Down. :billie:

Wrong. It was "Million Reasons". They where planning to make it "Christmas Tree" too.

Jk. Haha

I didn’t love it but I never considered ditching her. I’m shook.

John  Wayne is the continuation, she kills that alter ego :traumatica:

That’s interesting I never thought of that.  I’m going to watch it now.

it always says that the director of “Telephone” has admitted there was never a plan for a sequel he just liked the idea of ending it with “To Be Continued”, which the video host here says was a bit cruel to little monsters. I thought that was cute.

Lately ive been into psychological thrillers with obscure endings so i like this idea of to be continued.

Where's the spunk, Adam?

Yep. The only other video filmed by that director for Gaga too. John Wayne is both the ending of the Joana MV trilogy and the ending of the PAPARAZZI-TELEPHONE-JOHN WAYNE trilogy. Heavy Americana imagery, on the run outlaw, Gaga kills her boyfriend in Paparazzi (her “boyfriend” representing the male music producer who abused her as it shows her betrayal by him with her fall from fame in the video commentary on the music industry and dark sides of fame), then Fame Monster Era Gaga heavily explores these ideas with Telephone showing Gaga in prison for murdering her boyfriend and Beyoncé helps her escape. A girl power anthem about partying and ignoring your boyfriend when he calls you in the club while the video shows Gaga and Beyoncé poisoning men as a symbolic of rebellion against the patriarchy, and finally in John Wayne Gaga has fully experienced the downfalls of Fame after stripping back to her roots outside of the Aura of Gaga (which aside I believe Aura - a song about who she is behind the Gaga persona - was supposed to be the original trilogy) with the world of Joanne. She then kills the Gaga persona which she felt trapped in following her rise to fame. It’s really interesting and I feel not talked about enough how much Gaga has discussed “Fame” in many covert or obvious ways throughout her career. “Applause”, “Aura”, “Diamond Heart”, “Plastic Doll”, “Rain on Me”. It’s very meta.

That’s an interesting analysis, thanks!  Lots of cool ideas. I think Gaga’s work is so great partly because you can extract so many different meanings from it.  Her ARTPOP could mean anything. 🙌

Ooh. I love thrillers right now too (but I usually want a happy ending lol). What’s the best one you have seen lately?
