I’m just stating facts and Taylor’s core audience are millennials with disposable incomes If we’re talking serious the biggest difference that sets taylor apart is her music and whole discoveries are universally adored by her core fans. You can see all the streams are stacked throughout each tracks in her albums. When you mentioned just throwing away demos - her demos are literally on the same level of her released tracks. In other words she delivers to her fans what they expect. Versus you a mod of an artist couldn’t stomach listening to the artist takes and demos what does that say? Gaga music is inconsistent and divisive among the public and her own fans.

Gaga music is inconsistent and divisive among the public and her own fans. Making a lot of assumptions here but ok Not really here for the "Gaga vs Taylor" thing, I was simply using her as an example of an artist with substance and quality music whose unafraid to take risks and veer left when everyone is expecting something different over an artist whose work is mostly (in my opinion) devoid of feeling, purpose, or even identity. Taylor is beige trim on eggshell white walls and Gaga is hand painted lavender with dark purple dripping from the top, splashes of bright red, and glow in the dark glitter spray over it all. The former is universally accepted by all and it's fine, if a bit dull. But the latter is arguably more unique and exciting, even if fewer people like it or want it in their house. I just prefer my walls colorful Also, I have a 2TB flash drive full of unreleased songs, demos, multitracks, videos, and pictures that say I love Gaga and all of her work, I just like that her projects have direction and I respect that most stuff won't work with that direction. There's more ways to show you love an artist than throwing wads of cash at them (even though I do that too hihi ) 🌸Flourishing and vibrant🌼

It feels contradictive and wrong, and I know you probably going to spin this another way to justify your behavior so spare yourself the long posts, etc.

Versace 7,959
Sadly it won’t. Taylor’s ultimate care in this world other than things like health and her loved ones is her career. The same can’t be said about other artists. Most of them just wanna make music and be done with it.

Most of them just wanna make music and be done with it. Why is that a bad thing? I will never understand people’s obsession with success. It seems a very US American thing to worship success and grandeur and measure the worth of something or somebody in numbers and capitalist terms. Apart from Gaga (and MJ and Bowie) my favorite musicians are mostly underground (electronic/ house/ techno) artists and in my opinion they make the best music and are definitely superior to their more commercially successful contemporaries. In fact, I would not want for my favorite DJs and producers to become as successful as Guetta, for example, because those who try to appeal to a wider audience usually have to sacrifice their artistic vision in order to meet the needs of the general public. The same way I would rather enjoy a great event at Berghain in Berlin or go to an underground festival than to a mainstream one, I want Gaga and other artists to make great authentic music in the first place without trying to sell out and be the biggest. In fact, I believe Gaga would make better music, if she didn’t have any pressure to produce commercially successful hits. 🤷🏻♀️
Reject False Icons 4,763
I won’t write a huge paragraph but I believe it’s because in the 2010s all her pop girls contemporaries changed priorities while she kept dedicated on her music and rollouts, she was focused and she kept feeding her fans and also she made the VERY intelligent decision to engage with fans but not too much that the own fandom toxicity would reach her and change things forever. If her peers wouldn’t have shifted paths I believe we would still be seeing events like the 2009/2010/2011 vmas, bbmas, grammys. and of course they would have broken records after records, and even though pop wouldn't remain as dominant every year, they would have evolved and remained a house hold name
OMF 3,426
I doubt the issue is we don’t have enough pop stars that don’t want to be as big! It’s not something that happens often or to most singers.
