Do you agree with Taylor being the best at re-inventing herself?

Take Reputation and Lover vs Joanne and Chromatica.

She released LWYMMD, video and all. Then Ready for it video...then another video with Ed Sheeran. Apart from lead the remaining weren't a hit at all....yet she still released Delicate video which became a cute Radio hit and the Rep era lasted for quite a while. Same with Lover with lead Me! being not a hit, then Calm Down video and afterwards Lover video and even The Man video elongating the era which wasn't much of a hit to last for a long time. All the singles were sent to Radio as well.

For Joanne we hardly got two proper single with PI and MR. Joanne was released at the end when the era was dead. And JW wasn't sent to radio or released as a proper single.

And Chromatica... the less said about it better. Apart from ROM mini era it was hardly an era....

Hence, post 2016- Taylor wins at Eras.

I totally disagree, Joanne era had a far more visible influence than anything Taylor was doing in that period. The overall look,( especially the pink hat) became iconic and an era is defined by much more than singles. Joanne era had one of the greatest conclusions of Gaga's entire career at the Super Bowl Halftime Show which led to Million Reasons becoming a big hit. As for Chromatica, people always forget that Gaga had massive and detailed plans for that era that were derailed by COVID, so blaming her for things that were beyond her control is stupid. Just by watching TCB you can clearly see how much more thought Gaga puts into the themes and story telling of the show than Taylor has ever done. TCB was a unique experience, just like every Gaga tour, Taylors tours are far less distinct from era to era.

Her songwriting skills and impressive concerts aren’t for nothing and should have credit over the men in her life (which isn’t even an abnormally large amount).

Her concerts look boring to me tbh :poot:

How is her songwriting unique? Genuine question :partysick:

Taylor hasn't taken any big risks in her career like some of her peers. She's kept her audience because she's done the same thing for the entirety of her career. She did some minor tweaks here and there but even her most risky record Folklore is pop/folk which is close to her country pop sound. A song from Folklore could very well be on every other album except Reputation, her biggest risk.

From claiming she's bigger than MJ or on par with The Beatles to claiming her current popularity peak even matches some of her peers' peaks in terms of fan frenzy to even stating the world knows her non-singles when they mostly only know Blank Space and Shake It Off is what turns me off about both her and her catalogue. Blown way out of proportions.

A big reason why Taylor is charting with her albums is because she has a devoted fanbase who stream the sh!t out of her catalogue weekly. If the Backstreet Boys were peaking in the streaming era how many more weeks would their albums chart in had the number of times their fans played their CD's at home been factored in on the charts? MJ's Thriller would probably have been #1 for five years lol.

The reason why Gaga or Madonna suffered from declines in popularity was because their reinventions were alienating people. Because they took risks. Taylor does none of that. What's she's doing now is a more commercial approach to the marketing Beyoncé had in 2013 with her surprise release. Same hype but less talent and way more commercially appealing music. And her Eras tour can't be compared to her peers either because none of them have made a greatest hits tour. Beyoncé's latest world tour consists of like three well-known songs and the rest are deep cuts and songs from her brand new album. Taylor is a marketing genius but her success is way more that than just interest. Also, her selling more albums than anyone else does NOT make her a bigger star because guess what - she was the best-selling artist from 2008-11 and yet Gaga was still bigger than her. She sold more albums than anyone in 2017 but Adele was still bigger. What's made her bigger are not the sales but the marketing of her brand. Sort of like Beyoncé absolutely being considered the biggest act from 2013-2015 to the gp despite not being the best-selling one. That's where Taylor succeeds - marketing.

Britney's popularity from 1999-2009, Gaga's from 2008-12 and the peaks of Madonna in the 80s were bigger and they were huge in every part of the world. Taylor seems big but I can account for three countries in Europe where her popularity both in terms of appeal, hits and overall cultural impact is nowhere near those three mentioned and like Adele's 25 era. I'd say Taylor's success while huge does have some smoke and mirrors to it. Comparable to Beyoncé's from 2013-19. Maybe Taylor has surpassed them in the US but for Europe or Asia her albums aren't THAT big.

Idk I feel like it's more different aesthetics for each era rather than actually reinvention

Gaga and Madonna I think both have  reinvented their whole personality including their way of speaking for interviews and everything more than Taylor, but gp just usually thinks of this as "weird" so I guess Taylor is more relatable in that way

I didn’t say her songwriting were unique, but they’re impressive. She’s grown and developed as a songwriter over the years.

You also don’t have to like her concerts, but there’s millions upon millions of people that do, and are desperate to go.

I just don’t believe that the men she has dated are her legacy over her other impressive qualities, especially now. If anything she’s been vindicated of the shallow tabloid fodder that plagued her.

You don’t have to like Taylor Swift, but the men she’s dated being her legacy is simply wrong.

Smother Em Eh

No, Gaga, Madge, Bey & Riri are much better at reinventing themselves. Gaga & Madge take it to the NEXT LEVEL. Taylor has gotten really great at it but she’s not quit on Gaga, Madge, Bey’s level.

Artists like Madge, Gaga and Bey change their images/ looks as well as their sounds and even tones often (Madge, Gaga). Taylor doesn’t take it to the extreme artistic level like Gaga and the other Artists I listed.

Levine

And some other names I'm reading in this thread :lmao:

Just to be clear: following the sounds "hot right now" and go in that direction with your next era it's not reinventing. It's riding the wave.

She's the Mcdonald's of music, her fans are addicted to her too much and created a narrative that they are eating at a 3 Michellin stars restaurants but in reality her music is just another oily and salty average fast food:iamfair:

To see the hate for this woman in each thread, including from moderators is sad. It's strange that on a fan forum dedicated to an artist that's always an advocate for kindness and love, there is such bitterness and hate on her dedicated fan forum. No wonder she stopped visiting this place.

@SharkmanthaC read this thread to see what I meant.
