Compare that to non tiktok generation musicians albooms, Rennaissance Pt. 1 (62:14), Chromatica (43:08) or Midnight (44:02), which feels more like a whole body of work, agree or not?

Watch someone declare that a 30 second song is still art and therefore should be considered a song and then everyone starts making 30 second songs that are literally just a hook to go viral online    an album of 80 thirty second songs. Album of TikTok sounds... "THIS IS MY ART AND IT HAS VALUE"

Longest track is 3:51, shortest is 2:35, 3 songs are under 3 minutes, 4 songs are over 3:30, average track length of over 3:10

Honestly, not at all opposed to a ~40 minute album. Not to mention, single-LP vinyl records generally only hold 42-44 minutes of content (21-22 minutes worth of content per side). Obviously streaming is the big push to package shorter songs and shorter albums to maximize streams, but I do believe vinyl pressing comes into play. 

That all said, it is unfortunate that artists are incentivized to give us less in order to sell albums now that streaming dominates. Ten or fifteen years ago an artist would pack 13-15 songs averaging 4 minutes in length and we'd all drop $9.99 to $13.99 on a CD or iTunes purchase--what a steal.

I get that songs are shortened for replay and social media value but having a song that lasts 2-3 minutes isn’t inherently bad. I mean a lot of the music from the 40-60s were the same length for radio and release reasons, do we need to cancel all those too

There’s nothing wrong with this. All of Chromatica’s tracks are under 3 minutes or barely a few seconds over aside from Sine From Above and 1000 Doves. 

Olivia just released a single that starts out on piano and is almost four minutes in the middle of the summer and it hit #1 in the US and will reach #1 on Pop radio in a few days. I don’t think it’s fair to say she’s releasing shorter tracks to get a hit or viral moment because she doesn’t need to do that

Don't just compare Guts/Sour album length to other album lengths. Compare number of tracks as well.

Chromatica had 16 songs, and reducing the interludes of 2 min, it's 13 songs with 41 mins.

Guts with 12 songs at 39 mins or Sour with 11 songs at 34 mins isn't much different.
