crazygato 455
Does anyone remember MTN being promoted as the 3rd single for BTW? I recall someone having promotional stickers for the album that had "BTW, Judas, and MTN" mentioned as the "hit" singles (). Im too lazy to look up the receipts but it was obvious the whole era was derailed by the promo singles and Gaga and team already had the first 3 singles ready. So here's another question, was releasing 3 singles before the álbum release already planned? Was MTN going to be released before/after the album? IMO they just shouldve released it as a full fledged single before/during the album release instead of the promo singles "TEOG" and "Hair". It probably would have done the same as TEOG (or even better because it was planned) and the era would have sailed smoothly from there. That would leave TEOG as the 4th single during August of 2011 and a performance at the VMA's, Hair or You And I as fall/winter releases and maybe Scheiße or HML as the final singles. Something like this: 1. Born This Way (February 2011) 2. Judas (April 2011) 3. Marry The Night (May 2011) ALBUM RELEASE 4. The Edge Of Glory (August 2011) 5. You And I/ or Hair (December 2011) 6. Scheiße/or Heavy Metal Lover (March 2012) What do you think? Was the good sis MTN done wrong? Did it deserve to be the OG 3rd single? Discuss! Burim 280
Wasn’t it supposed to be the original lead single? I remember before we barely knew anything about the album and Gaga coming on here, using the little chat we used to have and telling us how the lyrics of the chorus just came to her while she was standing on stage I don’t remember it being promoted as a third single tho

The label preferred BtW and I think that was the only wise decision they ever made first single-wise lmaoo (apart from Applause)
lg5 1,469
It would’ve been a great third single, but the Edge of Glory really has become a Gaga staple at her shows.

I think she originally wanted MTN as the 1st single but her her team (smartly) chose BTW. That's was a good choice. Then she probably wanted it as the 2nd single but her team chose "Judas" because it was produced by RedOne and because it was Holy week to give it more attention/ controversy. Then they agreed for it to be the 3rd single but they released the "promo singles" and that's when they derailed the era, with TEOG taking MTN's place. They were becoming too greedy and IMO they shouldve never released the promo singles. Then You And I was successful on iTunes and planned as the 4th single, leaving MTN as 5th single that ultimately flopped.

TEOG could still have done great following MTN , especially with a VMA's performance!

Something about reading this triggered a repressed memory of when she had us vote for the 4th single off Born This Way (possibly could have been the 5th but I’m pretty sure it was the 4th) &&& The outcome of the vote was Scheiße won?? If my memory hasn’t wilted with age…. It wasn’t even close, like Scheiße had won the vote with a LANDSLIDE victory…. Tbh I’m kinda suprised that this doesn’t get brought up more on when people hypothesis on ‘what could have been’ theories or that there wasn’t really any big ‘meltdown’ or ‘outrage’ when this occurred. Like I’m sure there was but could you imagine if she did something like that that now ☠️ Like if she had done a poll for chromatica’s 4th single & sour candy won but instead she released sine from above as a single…. O M G - We’d still be hearing about it Frey as in free b*tch baby
Chris Evans 8,917
TEOG was the right choice but honestly it could've been release later and still done well, it's that great of a song. I believe it was release as single #3 because it did really well when release as a promo single before the album came out. Same reason DWUW was switched as single #2 instead of Venus
VOLANTIS 16,321
Well why hasn't she performed it ever after btw era I'll lift you 3 inches off the ground and drag you to a meter and a half

Same reason DWUW was switched as single #2 instead of Venus That's the problem, if they had MTN ready as the 3rd single, why not release that instead of the "promo" singles? Its like her team was just flopping around behind the scenes and tossing anything to see what sticks after Judas underperformance. Having MTN as the official 3rd single (NO promo singles) until album release would be good and there would just be 3 songs before the release without overexposing her. And the last part, idk how they thought Venus would do well, its more like a final single kinda song.
nATAH 43,103
i actually think it's the perfect closing single to the era because the song ends on such a bang mother, what must i do?
