Canada's immigration Minister says the Government plans to keep the current immigration targets of half a million either the same or it will be increased further but it will not be reduced

 

Despite concern by some that a very high immigration rate is straining Canada's housing, the Government says lowering immigration targets would have worse consequences as the Country deal with ageing population, low birth rates and skilled labor shortages

 

Last year Canada grew by over 1 Million people, a 2.7% growth rate, by far the fastest in the developed world

One thing I find interesting, I am getting the impression based on personal experiences that more young people are starting to be against high immigration while older people don't care as much either way which is the opposite from most Countries

 

I think it's cuz 80% or more of the population had always been pro immigration even older people but now young ppl are getting concerned because of housing crisis. Older ppl who already bought a house 20+ years ago don't care

I don't understand. The process to work in Canada is extremely harsh and bureaucratic unless they changed that recently? Unless they don't want poor/dark immigrants?

Yeah, I feel this. I'm a millennial-aged person who grew up where the people who were against immigration were theses basically racist, "they took our jobs!!" types, and of course disagreed with that.

But these days I do find myself growing worried about our immigration policies. For housing yes. There seems to be no plan there. And I'm really concerned about the explorative practices around international students going on in our colleges and universities... I mean some of these schools are basically running huge scams at this point, it's awful. 

And that situation with the refugees in Toronto last month that had people sleeping on the streets while the city, province, and federal gov argued about who's fault it was. Like ffs, how are we just allowing vulnerable people to come here with NO plan whatsoever for where they will sleep and be fed. It's insane. 

I'm not against immigration at all, but I increasingly do not trust that politicians at any level are handling it well.

Targets may be high but demand is even higher. So it's still not easy to get in per say
