I've noticed it has a similar perception to when non-european fans talk about Alejandro as well.

Like Alejandro & ARTPOP (the album) both buy heavily into european styles of EDM/Dance/Pop and just a personal view is it always feels like non-euros are way harder on the sounds of these than others simply because that Eurodance vibe was a fad globally but remains a big driver in the countries it originated.

I don't personally think ARTPOP sounded dated until even a lot of Euro producers jumped on the House/NRG renaissaince and i'm sure much like 90s house & 80s NRG tracks sounded dated a few years ago (but still ****ing iconic) ARTPOP's sound will make a comeback.

I don't think anybody who dislikes it dislike it because they claim EDM is dead, but rather she was always known as a trendsetter, and most of the tracks in production on ARTPOP were not exactly trendsetting, but trend following.

theres no way people are saying ARTPOP sounded dated in 2013, if anything it was too futurisitc.

i don’t think the critique was that EDM was dead. i think the critique was just that it was surprising it came out so late and sort of followed the trend instead of leading it. But that being said, no pop star was making these camp and bizarre hard hitting tracks with themes about fame and drugs - at least i don’t recall any

Objectively speaking, it's extremely uncohesive, overproduced, has leftover instrumentals.

Aura is based off leftover instrumental from Infected Mushroom + you can hear easily that the vocals of certain parts of the song were recorded at different times (mix of the demo vocals + new vocals recorded later).

Venus sounds like 3 songs blended into 1. The chorus is definitely the best part of her song and one of her best overall and it definitely was an odd choice to not put a chorus after the 1st verse.

G.U.Y. sounds very 2012-ish Zedd, was already dated when the album was released in 2013.

Manicure & Sex Dreams, about 90% of this fanbase are disappointed by the studio versions.

Jewels & Drugs... self explanatory

Do What You Want, good song but R Kelly mess

ARTPOP is a great song ok, her vocals are really soulless compared the live performances though

Swine is disliked by a lot of people

Fashion is a cute moment on the album. I'm french though and to this day I still have no idea what Will.I.Am sings on the song...

Dope is hated by 90% of the fanbase

edm was very much peaking in 2013-2014

but edm also isnt super mainstream - its more for rave culture and i know cuz i was going to raves every weekend

I love portions of ARTPOP and I think it could have been an amazing album and era given some things were changed. Honestly people wayyyy overreacted to SwineFest and clearly missed the entire point of her vomit piece. Demi’s dumbass talking about glorifying bulimia is a great example. I love the album with the exception of Jewels N Drugs which honestly should have never made it to the album.

i agree i think ppl got tired of the antics
