Doja Cat responds to someone asking her to say that she loves her fans

I mean, I get what the fan is saying but at the same time...Doja's not entirely wrong.

You can say that you appreciate your fans and everything they've done for you and your career (as you should), but stans have a propensity to engage in parasocial relationships with celebrities, particularly singers. Even the way that that fan is speaking in that screenshot feels very off-putting in my opinion. Like, "mind you you'd be NOTHING without us" and "you'd be working at a grocery store making song f*cking garage band"? Only Twitter stans who are terminally online and engage in parasocial behavior talk like this. You'd never say that sh*t to someone in real life, and it just feels really weird and entitled to do so. 

Like let's be real here. This is how/why Gaga has been more distant on social media. She used to be so active with fans that many of them started to develop this idea that they had a real friendship with Gaga. And everytime she didn't do something they liked, was too quiet on social media, didn't release a pop album in 'x' number of years, etc., they got rude and overly aggressive. We see that kind of stuff today. 

Sometimes it's best to set boundaries and let people know that if they support the artist, that's totally cool and fine. But it's also their prerogative at the end of the day. Like Doja said, no one is forcing them to do so. We could literally all stop listening to Doja's music from now on and she'd be financially fine.

Girl, I get you, but in the context of how she’s been treating her fans lately, you really are reaching to the stars to defend her. Gaga has NEVER acted like Doja does to her fans (even when we deserve it ) Being distant is different than actively antagonizing your fans, the ones you literally owe everything you have.

To be honest, I don't know what's going on with her. I know a lot of people don't like her right now and that's about it.

I think given how people feel about her recently, saying stuff like this isn't doesn't help her, and she definitely could've worded it better. There's a great video by Ludwig Ahgren, who's a streamer, about the dangers of parasocial relationships (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzyQbfh4t_8&ab_channel=Ludwig) and to be frank, I think more celebrities should set boundaries with their fans. Even if that means telling them off sometimes.

My comment wasn't necessarily about Doja's situation specifically, but about stan culture in general.

I understand what Doja Cat is saying,  but it's like she can't handle an ounce of criticism or negativity. She always feels the need to snap back, which isn't bad, I get it. When you're in the eyes if so many people, it's quite overwhelming. But if you don't care why do you keep commenting on it? Just be quiet and leave it alone. She's practically digging herself into a hole. She needs to log off and take a break before it gets worse.

I get what she is syaing but at the same time you dont have to love individuals in your fan base its more like you saying you love your fans for what they have done for you and the support. I know fans live vicariously too much and get babied too much but there is a difference between telling individuals u do not know you love them and telling a collective group that has changed your life that you love them for the support etc...she's going too far with the "clapbacks" imo.

I have a theory that she’s sick and tired of being over-worked by her label. She most likely doesn’t like the music she is being forced to release. She probably completely hates her job(s), but can’t quit because she’ll be sued for all she’s worth and then some. So she’s now desperately trying to self-sabotage and end her own career. Let’s help her out by making she sure never gets another hit song/album ever again.

If her contract is an ounce like Gaga's she can be reasonably forced to participate in marketing efforts. I feel like if it came down to it, if this was a serious thing she'd be sued into giving up control of her social media by her label. I do still think it's an act, but she's playing with fire and she's gonna get burned. This is so off-putting and I'm about to have a conversation with my friends about selling our tickets to see her if she doesn't change direction.

People who are supporting ur music and appreciating ur talent you dont need to personally know them to love them. This makes me so mad there are so many good musicians who arr not known and make better music thn her and would appreciated the support. Hope she tanks i mean people with literally no self respect will continue to support her i guess
