Paris has a culture rich in history and significance, and absolutely some of it is problematic. But let’s remove all politics and tribalism for a second: France is a pilgrimage for certain religions, for artists, for lovers of cuisine and history and those wanting to learn. You need to know what you want to find — where was the art? Lmao. Where were the actual people? Did he only engage with an Uber and the bottom of the Eiffel Tower?
 

He lazily just read the surface as a typical random, and ignorant American tourist, and whined in a TikTok. That’s not experiencing culture, that’s just being an entitled brat. What he may have disliked, or found to be exaggerated is someone else’s culture that THEY may love or have pride in.

was he expecting the entire city of paris, which has existed in some form for nearly 2000 years, now with a population of over 2 million to be a tourist utopia without any poverty, dilapidation and puddles on the ground (??)

There is literally a medical condition called "Paris syndrome" where people have such an unrealistic expectation of Paris that when they get there and see what it's really like they get into a psychotic state

I mean it's a city with so much hype so like what does one expect from ppl?

 

My aunt went on a Europe trip to UK, Spain and France and she found Paris the most overrated. I'm not surprised by such reactions based on what I keep hearing

 

At the same time, I don't know why ppl fall for unrealistic hype in the first place. No large city is a tourists Utopia from beggining to end. They all have flaws and slums.

Meh, I've been to Paris several times and it's a beautiful city. The things he's showing in the video, you can find this 'side of the city' in about every other big city. That's just what they look like as well.

Paris was ugly some 20 years ago or something. not now, and even the suburbs he showed i like lol. someone wanted attention. The buildings have been restored, the city is mostly clean. lol it's a lovely city with great history

i blame education and romanticism of foreign lands. i had a similar reaction to Cairo, Egypt when i went - specifically shocked that the pyramids were basically in the city.  It’s not their fault though. I’m sure people have the exact same opinion of Los Angeles

Honestly, he seems bitter.  Unless you’re a child or someone who has a Disney-like perception of the world, you shouldn’t be surprised that Paris looks the way it does (just like any other major city in the world). Nothing he showed in that video was shocking or surprising and tbh, it looked fine? No different than NYC lol. 
 

That comment about it looking like the Middle East though? We can have a conversation about Americans being racist to that part of the world in a different thread.

I also had this fake idea of the pyramids being far far away in the desert, when I saw a picture of Cairo and how the pyramids are so close to the urban perimeter I was Shooketh™
