People are way too sensitive and too politically correct these days to the point it’s unbearable..

I’ve seen people criticising the video for just having skinny people, but I feel like this could be seen as offensive, especially with the memes I’ve seen on twitter - let’s not forget Troye has struggled with his body image in the past.

I mean, the fact that only skinny people were in the video about sex is kinda weird when gays are known to body-shame a lot (just look at the way they criticized Sam Smith for daring to be a sexy plus-size individual).

Nobody is trying to “cancel” Troye, in fact most people bringing up the lack of body-diversity have stated that they love the song and video. So idk why all these skinny gays are upset over people bringing up the lack of body diversity lol

i mean, i think it's part of an issue that's prevalent in society now where people feel the need to look exactly like someone in order to relate to them, even if body positivity isn't the focus. if the song's about queerness are body types really relevant? i mean i could complain that it's also not inclusive because there's no native american gay person in the video, or no disabled gay person, but i just don't think it's that serious.

if the song was about loving your body and feeling comfortable in your own skin, then yes, absolutely, include a range of body types. but if the song's effectively about gay sex, how does someone being skinny or not affect your ability to relate to it? i don't watch a gay romance film and say "i wish i could find this cute but i can't because they're skinny and i'm not".

I’m just saying that this critique could have been predicted for all the reasons I said. Like if you showed the video this site prior to release, I bet we’d all be like oh he’s gonna get flak for that, and we’re not even marketing experts (we’re little managers). That’s all I’m saying. Like it’s just dumb to act surprised this is being said, basically. Troye and his team ain’t new here!

It's not even close to her place to be saying all of this. Next.

Also not people in this thread seeing no issue with it. Clearly it's an issue when the artist claims that the video is a 'love letter to the community' and you're leaving out part of the community. Not to mention the aesthetic they're pulling off is mainly associated with larger gays/bears/daddies and there isn't any in sight.

It's not cute and neither are the people condoning this.

It is a song about a club hook-up rush - get over it. Not everything needs to resonate with every individual within the community

I am not skinny, and It have not crossed my mind that it needs body diversity since that is not the message of the video or song. It is just about gays having fun. Trying to bring up issues about it

Also ngl, as a fat ass seeing the 1 mandatory plus sized person in a music video is generally more annoying to me than anything.

Because it's so so so so obvious when they've been included to avoid a twitter thread etc and that does nothing for body positivity in reality - all it does is ticks a box so the slim white cis folk can go look we achieved target today folks

If I want to point out the lack of body diversity or any type of diversity in the media I consume in 2023, that’s my ****ing prerogative :yennefer:

Not that I needed reminding of it, but it’s definitely a reminder that people have very exclusive ideas of what sexy is. Not too long ago that people were openly saying “no fats, no fems, no Asians” on their dating apps.

I can’t believe how entitled people feel to dictate how other people express their art. If you don’t like it don’t consume it or make your own art and express it the way want. GET OFFLINE AND GO INTO THE REAL WORLD WHERE YOU WILL SEE THAT THE INTERNET IS NOT THE REAL WORLD. Sheesh.
