If they can release the original Star Wars on Blu-ray in full HD, we can get Bad Romance in HD. #thatisall

No? :fail: videos are NOT filmed in SD, maybe in 1972. They need high quality video for editing, like in situations where they might need to zoom in on a shot or manipulate a part of it. It might've been edited in SD or just rendered in SD, but they wouldn't film it in SD no matter what the budget was.

And then what about LoveGame or Paparazzi? We don't have HD versions of those as far as I know (maybe Paparazzi but that might've been an upscale), and at that point she was already one of the biggest pop stars at the time, so the budget excuse wouldn't be valid.

Okay - at least we agree on this point: it was edited/rendered in SD. Therefore, no matter what format it may or may not have been shot in, we will NOT be getting a True HD version of these videos.

The reason she transitioned to releasing HD videos with Telephone is because that's when it became an industry standard. Prior to that time, a very small amount of music videos were released in HD (also due to the fact that not many music stations aired in HD).

I wouldn't completely rule out getting an HD version of the videos. If the HD or film footage exists, there's always a possibility that it will be released in HD (though very unlikely).

And actually, not all videos were filmed the same way, most of TF and TFM videos were actually shot with film. IIRC, it is up to the director or the director of photography to decide what type of camera to use. If you look at the behind the scenes videos, Just Dance, Poker Face, Bad Romance, and Telephone were shot with film. Obviously film can easily be converted to digital HD (like with Telephone). LoveGame was shot digitally in HD or higher.

I highly doubt that any of these were edited in SD, I don't know why any legitimate person in video editing or visual effects would not work with the highest quality possible, that's just dumb not to. Most likely, Interscope is sitting on higher quality versions of the videos, it is up to them whether or not they want to re-release the earlier videos in HD.

When it comes to special effects, it is much easier to edit in SD than HD. Since they were never intended to be released in HD, there would have been no reason to edit them in such a resolution, as it is much more time consuming.

Still, of course it is possible that we will get an HD version, but I feel that if that were to happen, Interscope would've already done this and provided these versions to channels like MTV HD when they air the music videos :s

Considering the fact that Intescope literally used YouTube rips of BTW, TEOG, and Judas on the BTW USB, that's expecting too much of them. They've had no real reason to re-release the videos in HD since MTV/Palladia already had the videos and play them regardless of whether they are in HD or not.

Some parts and seconds are cutted out from the Bad Romance video :( But the quality was good!

All upconverted - the videos were never released in HD (and most likely not shot in HD, either, except for maybe Bad Romance)

I'm pretty sure Gaga has said in an interview that they shot Poker Face in "crazy HD", so I'm sure it is. It looks like it.

Question here: If the vids were shot in HD then why weren't they uploaded in HD on Youtube?

If the vids were in SD then how the heck MTV managed to turn them in HD crystal clear versions?

They might not have edited or released them in HD. So the raw footage is probably in HD but they might've decreased the resolution in the production/editing process.

I get what you're saying but I still doubt that they would have done that. I go back to my argument of Star Wars, if a movie that is like 30 years old can be released in full HD with special effects, surely a 3 year old video can too.
