I really like this song...and I'm not a huge Taylor fan. The melody is fun. I do think the production/mixing sounds a bit off.

Also, can someone explain to me why people keep bringing up Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor together lol? I've seen people trying to say Vampire was about Taylor, when it's clearly about an older man being creepy/weird towards Olivia when she was 19.

Swifties and OR fans reaching because Olivia used to be a vocal Taylor fan and hasn’t said her name once since Sour dropped. Taylor has songwriting credits on deja vu after Olivia revealed the bridge was inspired by Cruel Summer which is why fans speculated vampire is about Taylor being money hungry and taking credit for things unnecessarily. I think it’s all nonsense, but I don’t think Taylor and Olivia are on good terms

i dug into this last week cause i’ve been seeing a lot about that…

apparently, olivia has been a very vocal swiftie and was a part of the promo for fearless TV… and then, shortly after SOUR dropped and taylor was granted writing credits on the album that weren’t originally there… and then olivia went silent when Red TV dropped but acknowledged other releases around the time… flash forward to an award show where they both attended and didn’t take a single photo together even though the two have been supportive of each others projects prior etc…

Interesting. It does seem like there may be some hard feelings, but not an outright 'feud'. And yes, I agree that the stans are clearly reaching re: Vampire or speculating that they hate each other.

Idk. I listened to Deju Vu and Cruel Summer and I really don't see it. I can see why OR might have been annoyed (I imagine they settled versus having to fight it out with TS), but I also see why TS might have gone after credit. On the other hand, I do feel like Elvis Costello would have had legitimate reasons to ask for credit for Brutal.

It kind of seems like a prime example of how the Blurred Lines lawsuit has made everything a mess in regards to copyright, etc.

*If OR is a big Swiftie, she's probably aware of the Wildest Dreams/Without You thing (I love Lana, so I've known about that for a while). I could see that compounding OR's annoyance as Wildest Dreams is far, far closer to Without You than Deja Vu and Cruel Summer.

look at the sign on the bridge, the ending is them driving off to do the same rescue mission for 1989  officially confirmed next album

There is a BIG misconception about the whole situation which puts Taylor under the bad light.
But, Jack Antonoff, the producer on Cruel Summer, himself said that Olivia's team reached out after people speculating about the similarities between two songs and offered the Cruel Summer writers (Taylor, Jack, St. Vincent) credits on Deja-Vu.
Taylor's side was smart to take the credit becuase if they didn't, some other artist could go and rip off cruel summer and if taylor sued or asked for credits, she wouldnt win the case because they could say that she'd previously rejected a credit on a song similar to cruel summer. So it was smart that they accepted the deja-vu credits.

Additionally, Deja-Vu is not the only song on the album with credits to Jack and Taylor. 1 step forward 3 steps back (13 in the name lol) interpolates New Years Day off of reputation and we knew about it long before the album came out. So the whole situation is just messy and blown out of proportion and makes Taylor look like an industry monster which she isn't. She's a little monster.

Regarding them not being on good terms, i doubt. During the 2022 VMAs when Taylor acnnounced Midnights, Olivia was nominated for one of the awards and in the audience cam you could see Taylor cheering happily when Olivia's name was announced as one of the nominees.

I think this is a case of them trying to build a seperate image for herself other than being a Taylor fan ebcause they have that singer-songwriter young female singing about heartbreaks type and initially people were connceting her and Taylor way too much.

here's a timeline of what happened:

to me it's a case of "never meet your hero". they're not on bad terms... but they're not on good terms either. they just don't acknowledge each other again. IMO it wouldn't hurt some simple words of support from taylor, but she chose to make it about business/ something transactional.

the highest reach is that vampire is about taylor though :air: it's about her relationship with zack bia (some dj/club owner or whatever, hence the vampire metaphor cause he would only go out at night). he apparently only dates famous women ("fame-fvcker") like noah cyrus and madison beer- who appeared to confirm on twitter the song is about him (her song selfish has many similarities to vampire).

in the video she wears a dress that resembles a lot to the one she performed driver's license in at the grammys when she was 19y/o (in the video it says "19th annual awards").... and there are a few more easter eggs but i'm not that into her personal life, these are just a few obvious things :zilla:
