Chaos is their hobby, they film their activities and put videos on TikTok and brag about how good they are at disdaining the State government. Those who get the most likes, they feel honoured and empowered to do even more chaos. Their is a competition about which gang is the best at stealing or burning the most cars. Their riots inspire other youngsters to join the crowd. Contrary to what French media reports, the Police lost control about the situation years ago. In daily life, Police (wo)men are scared to go to criminal places because they are outnumbered by the large crowds of youth gangs, and are subject to attacks. I wouldn't recommend anyone to move to Marseille, in certain places, when you call the police for help, the police is reluctant to come, certain areas are dominated by youth gangs and the police (wo)men are totally overwhelmed and overchallenged. Only when the European/world media is closely looking, the French state pretends to do something and relocates police officers from others areas to increase their numbers in certain locations, to make it look like that France gov has control. The French gov made bad decisions 40-60 years ago by segregating people into economically deprived neighborhoods and then neglected them, the people there feel like, to say it in Michael Jackson's words "They don't really care about us". This lead to the emergence of the youth gang riot street culture. Who wants to become police officer in France these days? It is no surprise that less and less young French people want to become police officer in the present. Bad working conditions. No respect. Risk of being attacked. Difficult tasks. The French gov tried to recruit highers numbers of Black police (wo)men with the hope, it could change things for the better. However, when Black police officers go to certain places, they are called by some other Blacks "traître" (traitor) and are asked questions "why are you collaborating with the government?". They act as if this is not a job for Blacks, which is alarming. This is demotivating Blacks to become police officer, they speak and share their experiences with their community and it discourages Blacks form becoming police officer, although they have equal chances of becoming one, and ideally they should be represented proportionate to their demographics . In the long run, the percentage of "steely" police officers increases because non-steely police offers are more likely to quit or not begin the job, also the percentage of pressed, overchallenged, frustrated police officers increases as a consequence of the situation. This leads to some police (wo)men become more brutal and then escalation on all sides becomes more brutal, which in turn makes youth gangs more brutal and police offers more brutal. It is a cycle of mutually enforcing brutality. Other countries need to learn from France's mistakes and do it better. No, they really don't. Mostly just the people grasping for every excuse to veer into far-right territory and finding a goldmine in another protest that isn't a quiet, clean kumbaya circle they can ignore.
