For example an asthmatic like me (I have bad inflamed lungs) could probably easily develop COPD or even cancer from smoking for just a few years, meanwhile someone who is not genetically prone to that type of cancer or lung desiese might get away with smoking their entire life and it doesn't end up doing much to their life span Genetics play a huge role at the end of the day. But of course ur always taking a chance when u abuse ur health. The healthier your lifestyle still the higher the chances of a long and healthy lifespan I definitely would not look to unusual aberrations of people in 90s or 100s who drank or smoke a lot to start justifying it. They are definitely a minority PS: it's also known cigarettes have gotten slightly worse for ur health cuz they have more chemicals now than before. Many smokers in their 90s probably started when tabbaco was simpler. Not that it was ever any good for u

People are always shocked when I ask for water when I'm visiting them "Water?? Are you sure?? We also have soda" Idk which country you’re from, but this is sooooo common in the US. When I go to someone's house however cuz it's a more special dinner I'm more likely to endulge in juice or pop but depends, sometimes even then I may ask for water... And when I do 8 times out of 10 the conversation goes something like: Host: "What would you like to drink?" Me: "water is fine" Host:"are you sure? Don't be shy we have juice or soda, or beer" Me: "nah I'm ok with water" Host: (in a hesitant voice) "alright if your sure, let me know anytime if youd like anything else"

Sugar is known to increase risks of cancer but unless I'm mistaken it's in more indirect ways... High sugar consumption can prevent your immune system from being at peak performance, it can trigger inflammation etc. Those things combined allow cancer more of an opportunity to be triggered Some of these artificial sweetener chemicals outright damage your DNA kind of like radiation or UV rays from the sun. And I think to be classified as a carcinogen it must impact or trigger it more directly Someone feel free to clarify better if I'm missing the mark. But that's how I've understood sugars role in cancer vs many of the artificial sweeteners The way they increase the risk is different but they both ultimately do but I think artificial sweeteners are worse for that again for damaging your DNA more directly
