gumzy3000 7,898
If they are saying they are not going to fly any flag for a specific cause then isn't that fair? Why should the pride flag be allowed when there are countless other causes? Do they also fly a flag for feminism, BLM, Blue Lives Matter, indigenous rights etc? If they were just targeting the Pride flag then that would be an issue but it seems like they are being fair? trolly troll troll

Its a slippery slope to allow social activism flags on public property, unless it represents an actual law or bill, and is already part of government. If you allow Pride flags, you will eventually see Blue Lives Matter flags everywhere too! I think the issue is that being gay isn't a choice it's a personal characteristic that can't be changed. Like putting a harry potter flag on because you enjoy the book is more equivelant to putting a religious flag up, pride flags aren't the same imo, but I still wouldn't have a problem with a religious flag as long as it's not to promote hatred or anything and I'm atheist. I mean at the end of the day it's a damn flag it shouldn't be this deep or complicated.

But as a European I don't find it particularly shocking. Personally I don't feel the need for my city hall to display a rainbow flag to feel validated in my sexuality or safe in the streets or represented among my peers. I also think it's a rather good idea to prevent such things as religious symbols being represented on public institutions to separate state from religion but that's not how you Americans do it. Tbh I kinda understand that some people may be tired of the omnipresence of gay stuff during June cause even I as a gay person am sometimes. Feel free to debate but plz be respectful in the replies 😵💫 I can agree with you on the safe part. I assume in areas with lots of rainbow and pride stuff displayed, that the surrounding areas are not as tolerant as that specific side of town. I also feel like areas like this are alot more likely do attract hate crimes and intolerant people. Kinda like if someone wants to do harm, they know exactly where to go I am from a small town in Georgia, pretty rural in some areas. But i stay in the suburbs. I definitely feel more safe, blending in with the croud around here. However, i have never felt unsafe walking through town with my partner. Most people just assume we are friends, or once someone asked me if we were brothers.

Its not a big issue for me.

skaxboy 6,906
Freedom of religion is one thing. Freedom FROM your religion is also part of that freedom. If you’re religious beliefs influence you to be hateful, please do some soul searching.
