Guest
From the trailers I thought this movie looked pretty good. I think Spider-Verse is also potentially impacting numbers as well.

The Flash and this story in particular are big enough for a movie, but the issue is that they adapted it as a cap off to the DCEU that no one cared about, then Ezra’s problems, then general superhero fatigue. It was never gonna be a slam dunk unless it was an amazing, non-generic movie with a star that people wanted to see. It was kinda neither. Solid movie, hated actor by those who know him/not big enough to be Johnny Depp and be big despite scandal. I’d also argue that the movie marketing doesn’t really celebrate what makes Flash a compelling hero. They marketed it as an event film for a universe no one cares about ofc I was gonna flop lmao The Flash’s appeal has always been about his character. He’s a spider-man type. Jokester, fun, quipping, everyday. Idk if the movie executes his character well, but let’s say it does: that’s what the marketing needs to center around similar to OG Iron Man. If Marvel had marketed that movie as an event you HAD to see and that they had these big universe plans from the jump, I think it would have hurt the movie. It needed character marketing and executed it flawlessly. Ironically, WB couldn’t do that, though, because of Ezra (though tbh I also think he was a miscast). Trying to market the film as an epic fight CG fest in a consumer world that’s, frankly, exhausted by the stakes of seemingly everything, is not a compelling message. On TikTok it’s “this is why you’re doing X thing WRONG.” On the news, everything is in shambles. It’s seemingly like everything is apocalyptically vying for attention so why would an escapist film have any success following that formula when the escape is to…more doom? Why would a story? DC and comic movies need to branch out of superhero CG fests (I say this as a longtime comic fan), and focus on heart and original stories that actually *feel* escapist lmao. Action adventures aren’t escapist when you actually have mass shooters and a threatened earth all around you.

Across the Spiderverse and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which both came out within the last 2 months, are doing incredible, both in terms of the box office and critical reception. The Flash also isn’t a minor character at all. He’s a core member of the Justice League and he’s been in various other media like animation and video games. The Flash movie didn’t work because of a multitude of reasons, but superhero fatigue is not one of them. People just want to see good movies, regardless of whether or not they’re superheroes. 🦠🧙♀️🥀📸🎉👻🕺🧟💊💖☎️🔪👤🐺🌱🌎

RAMROD 108,172
There are writings on the wall. But nobody's in that camp want to acknowledge it. All they really need to do is having long hiatus. Let people forget about all these mess and return with a hard reset. But since they have announced DCU, I guess that won't happen. In that case, hope WB enjoy destroying DC brand even further. This is beyond crashing and burning now.
