Not really imo. Experimental musicians push the boundaries of music all the time. Of course most people in the world don’t know about them though.

For me personally it was when I first heard this song by Clams Casino that I was truly blown away by its sheer freshness and un-familiarity of sound…. Still absolutely love it.

Honestly, when I was 13 and heard Bad Romance for the first time it blew me away. I don't think I ever heard anything that futuristic and forward-thinking at that time :firega:

Tbf I agree with the OP, it's the song that began the major uprise in EDM becoming popular again imo

(obviously there's exceptions to that but)

To me they're many 'last times' along the way... But yeah, it must be hard to figure out or imagine the shock, decades later... I know, today it looks like an oldies/goldies list, but I remember all these first times, the context, where I was, who was there, moments like these are embedded in me. Like I'd never heard something like this when it came out and how blown away I was...

Just now on the top of my head, each time music sounded like nothing before :

The Beatles - The White Album

Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

Many performances at Woodstock

The Doors - L.A. Woman

Eric Clapton - 461 Ocean Boulevard

Thaï Phong - Sister Jane (J.J. Goldman 1rst breakthrough)

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon

The Who - Who's Next

Rory Gallagher - Deuce

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus

The Rolling Stones - So many f*cking great songs

Deep Purple - In Rock

Pop Corn - Hot Butter

Bob Marley - Exodus

Joe Cocker - Sheffield Steel, Marianne Faithful - Broken English, Grace Jones - Nightclubbing (all the Island Records family of that era)

Terry Riley - In C

Miles Davis - Tribute to Jack Johnson

Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom

John Abercrombie - Timeless (and so many ECM albums...)

Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure

David Bowie - Aladdin Sane

Dollar Brand - Ancient Africa

Stanley Clarke - Journey to Love (special mention to that nvr heard b4 Alembic bass sound)

Joni Mitchell - Don Juan Reckless Daughter (with the magical fretless bass of Jaco Pastorious)

Japan - Tin Drum

Brian Eno - Before and After Science

U2 - The Joshua Tree

Billy Idol - Rebel Yell

Z.Z. Top - Eliminator

Yello - Stella

Talking Heads - Remain in Light

Laurie Anderson - O Superman

Jon Hassell - Possible Music

Cher - It's a Man's World and Believe

Madonna - Ray of Light

Shpongle, Infected Mushroom, Ott, Kalya Scintilla, Tripswitch and all the psychill-ambient-dub of the last 20 years and more recently,

Lady Gaga - Joanne

Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts

. . .

There's not much rap or so-called r'n'b in that list because I don't really dig these. Nobody's perfect...

But this is also so true :
