Netflix has given audiences a first look at the upcoming live action for Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is set to come out in 2024.

Some of the Characters:

The title reveal:

----

Based on what I've seen reactions have been from mixed to positive. Many consider it an improvement over the movie, but others have doubts about whether or not it can live up to the show in a closer capacity.

I personally think it looks great. I am excited to see it! :)

I had such high hopes for these movies when the original writers of ATLA were on board.. but since they split due to creative differences with the production company my expectations have lowered a lot :smh:  I assume it won't be overly faithful to the animated series which is a bummer

However! It can't be worse than that heaping pile of shyamalan ****. And at least the actors this time are racially diverse andmore accurate!

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

The actor picks are really good. I understand that this is probably geared for young audiences but the outfits look very cosplay-like

I don't understand why it has to be live action? I would have loved to see an animated movie so the effects would be more spectacular. Then again, I am riding off a high watching animated movies right now lol

CHOMP.

the problem with these kind of projects is that they are very CGI demanding, you need an Infinity War/Endgame kind of budget to pull them off

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

I hate how post the original 3 seasons, the creators of this show have been making one terrible decions after another.

I've read people saying it looks like cosplay, too saturated, cheap... Yall are just not used to brighter colors anymore because every liveaction adaption of a cartoon has been dark and egdy nowadays. Just because it's about war doesn't mean we need a dark grey filter over everything.

It looks faithful, which is what people want. These are just 4 photo's, it will probably look better in the final product. My only complaint is that Katara's costume doesn't really look warm enough for the South Pole. Also the Sokka actor still doesn't really do it for me, but maybe his acting will be really good. I also wish they gave Katara and Sokka blue eyes.

And for those saying they doubt it will have good special/visual effects or them having the butget for it. I thought it had been confirmed a while ago that this is going to be one of the most expensive Netflix projects ever because of the effects. Also I read they are doning things that haven't been done for television before. I believe they already have a world record.

This show was first announced in 2018, so they are really taking their time to do it well, but even if it's really good, I already know it still won't be as good as the original. We didn't want or needed this remake, but I can't image it being worse than the 2010 movie. Aang looks the best out of these four.

That’s also a problem, it has been 5 years of production, filming started in 2021, the actors were 2 years younger, Aang actor was 11 now he’s 13 and by release date he’ll be 14, so in case of a 2nd season the guy will be 15 and won’t fit the character anymore.

I've read they are filming it all back to back, at least season 2 and 3 will be. Season 1 was finished a while ago if I remember well.

Yes, to everyone questioning it:

it was confirmed they created the largest LED video screen wall to shoot the series (Im not that technical, for those who are: u can find a lot of info about it on google), even larger than the Mandalorian’s screens

+ also confirmed they spent more than 15M$ per episode

sooo, budget is hugeee, technology wise they used the best of the best, so Im really not that scared tbh

also, I like that they pushed it to 2024, means that they are taking their time with the visuals and really lead with passion

Actually, it changed. While no longer the showrunners, the creators and the Paramount studio in charge of the Avatar Universe, Avatar Studio, are now supervising the live action and every new stories introduced in the show will now be considered canon.

The budget is closer to Stranger Things as Netflix want it to be their new flagship show.

/// shooting has ended more than a year ago, it has been in post prod since then.  They did some reshots though.
