And the thing is pop stars sell things. It’s a part of being a pop star. Gaga just sells / advertises things she likes, Vs in the past she was selling things she didn’t care for. I think when people cite “where is the Gaga that didn’t like selling perfumes” they misconstrue what she said to be that she didn’t wanna be a businesswoman, just a musician. I, as a normal person, who was raised to try to be as empathetic as I could, dislike ignorance and injustice. Yes, I am a social warrior justice, or woke.

I dislike people trying to disqualify another person's entire work because for the first time in 15 years they didn't write a few words on social media, while ignoring all the things they say and do behind social media.

demanding someone to post a rainbow pic during pride month is the definition of performative, gaga is doing the work through philanthropic work as she stated in this post

It reminds me how celebs will post a black picture for BLM and nothing more, while Gaga has been supporting BLM for years before the hashtag, even I who wasn't a fan back then knew about this, but sure, PR activism on social media is more important.

But my point is why do we engage with her as if she is a folkloric figure, a person with discourse elements attached to her figure, and that we need her to keep pushing that discourse because it's familiar. For me, it feels like she wants her birds to take flight, she's done her share of nurturing, and that left her drug abusing and suicidal. Stefani wanted to kill Gaga. Sometimes I imagine myself if I went somewhere, and got the looks, the phones being held up, the videos, the constant harassing. Imagine someone you don't know saying they love you, imagine someone you don't know asking for a picture and your signature, imagine someone you don't know crying in front you. Now imagine yourself putting your head to your pillow after that and processing that. Fame causes a cognitive overload of information through that interaction and it's something very few people endure in the world. Some like it a lot, it inflates their ego, they think they're the best person alive. That's not her case.

She is an extremely intelligent person, she thinks about philosophy of art and talks about it in interviews in a way that no one else of her caliber does. She is an extremely sensitive person, if you are or know sensitive people, you know that their relationship with the world is deep, full of pain and questions about the human nature, what we're here for, what is the world. And we can also observe how sensitive people tend to interpret things their specific way and put their foot down on what they believe. The senses get chaotic on sensitive people, the simple act of pushing a post button becomes an entire existencial question. And in this feeding relationship we have with her, we forget she's a human, under the spotlight, in a world she has strong opinions about, being famous which she also has strong opinions about, making art which she, again, has strong opinions about. When we demand things from her, we do it reading our senses, our feeling of need, of wanting to be fed, so her art can crawl under our skin once again. But on the other side there's a person, healing immense trauma, navigating a weird world only a few get to experience, while being empathetic, kind and with a purpose if doing nothing more than good to people. When she says she "just wants the public to smile", you can see her need of serving. You can observe that through BTW Foundation activity online, you can see that in interviews when she talks about her work and the world. But no one can be a servant 100% of the time, even less when that service is under the spotlight, and even less when they think about that spotlight daily, when they suffer from that spotlight. I can only imagine how it is to have her mind and her life. It must be a life of constant conflict.

The way you phrased the evolution of Gaga into who she is today, & tapped into what she must feel & be confronted with on a daily basis really acknowledges her as first and foremost, a human being, and then an entertainer. Perfectly written. 

Majority of her fandom take her for granted, and forget that she’s literally just like me, you and them - she isn’t a product or a machine, nor is she concerned anymore with constantly ‘feeding’ her fans for the sake of keeping them interested. Shes a human being who wants to do right by herself, feed her own passions and as odd as it might sound given her achievements, grow.
