Unpopular opinion: Born This Way (2023)

to me, Judas really is just another attempt at Bad Romance

the structure is almost identical (espeically the judah- ga ga lyrics) and i just find it to be such a poor attempt at trying to push another redone x gaga monster hit

the verses are really interesting, thumping and industrial but the chorus is so weak in comparison

redone's sound packs strike again :messga:

mother, what must i do?

Releasing Judas as a single was a mistake, the backlash that ensued was unnecessary

Americano is a great song and haters can seethe :vegas:

- Sorry but as much as I love a lot of the songs in the album, but I don't think it's Gaga's magnum opus.

- Also, I wish the single release order would've been this:
Born This Way
The Edge of Glory
You and I
Judas
Marry The Night

The Edge of Glory could've been Gaga's 2nd number 1 hit from Born This Way if she didn't surround herself with controversy early on the album's life :franminervini: Like I get it, Judas being released on Easter Sunday was and is still iconic but Gaga promoted the album in such a positive tone that I think the controversy put off a lot of people and took off the airplay/hype that other singles could've had. Just my two cents :ororomunroe:

What do you think is Gaga's Magnum Opus? It's not my personal favorite (actually, it's probably my least favorite), but I think it had huge cultural impact in several ways. She gave a lot of visibility to the LGBT community when I feel like plenty of people wanted to pretend the community didn't exist while also validating the existence of those in it. And I'd say this is one of the only times I've seen a artist poke at religion on the scale she did and make it out with a career. It solidified her as a pop star instead of turning her into a one hit wonder (in terms of albums rather than songs) and it rivals the success of the fame even with the fame's high bar.

Born This Way set a standard for me that she was never able to meet again and is what I consider to be her most experimental, daring, and forward thinking album.

The attempt to recreate a Bad Romance with Judas was a success, because Judas >>> Bad Romance for me.
The Queen and Fashion of His Love are underappreciated and I love them.
Americano is a good song!!

It has some of the best production of her career flanked with some of her weakest.

That being said, Born This Way is a dangerously brave record. 20 years from now when people talk about Gaga's music career, this album will be at the forefront.

I agree except i would release You And I as the 2nd single so it wouldnt stall the era midway. It would also be #1 along with the album release. TEOG would be 3rd with a performance at the VMA's and would sell the album and keep the momentum going towards the end of the year. Judas as single 4 during fall just to go crazy and keep/spice up attention and controversy on the era. MTN as the 5th single for 2012 New year and a closing performance at the Grammy's!

1. BTW (February 2011)

2. YaI (May 2011)

3. TEOG (August 2011)

4. Judas (December 2011)

5. MTN ( February 2012)

That album and era were a LEGENDARY mess (in both amazing and crazy chaotic ways)

- BTW is iconic, but IS a bit of a rip off of “Express Yourself”, and a letdown from all of Gaga’s previous singles

- Judas never should’ve been a single (I would even put it only on a Deluxe version)

- MTN is  a masterpiece! (and 2nd single material)

- You & I was ruined by boring production

Gaga was trying too hard that era.

Government Hooker, Heavy Metal Lover, Scheible, Road to Love - all are amazing! hits that got away. Beautiful and dark, and still sound great!

I love it for all its nostalgic goodness and as albums/eras go it’s still up there with my all time faves. However, as I’ve got older I can’t help but notice there is this fuzziness present like when you listen to music on a blown out speaker. Idk if it was a production choice or what but it kinda bugs the hell out of me.

Not the bore worms!

Her instincts were right about the cover. It’s iconic tbh. Bawdy, garish, over the top, campy. It’s really great and I did not always think that.

Scheiße would not have been a hit (though it is a great song and the mugler remix is insane)

the mugler mix of scheiße made the think the album would be many things it wasn’t. Tbh I’m a little sad BTW didn’t get more remix work from, like, legit really deep club DJs. It got so so ones that were also fairly similar but it had a LOT of missed potential imo

americano is cute but better on piano and kinda a b side if I’m being honest.

BTW the song is meh and she should scrap performing it :max:

TEOG is a perfect pop song. It’s easily one of her best songs, full stop.

Mutt Lange committed two crimes in his life: hurting Shania, and ruining Yoü and I with that bouncy bluegrass honky tonk.

It is the most Gaga, most unique album Gaga has ever produced. Her artistry is DEFINED on BTW.
