SharGaga 2,906
If Matt Healy wasn't dating Taylor Swift nobody would care about this controversy. I didn't even know him until he started dating Taylor. All of a sudden everything he's done is being put under a microscope. Are we saying Matt Healy can't make mistakes and move on? No woman deserves to date him? If Matt was dating a stranger would the stranger be scrutinized? Just because Taylor's famous doesn't mean she needs to be held accountable too. The dating rumours aren't even confirmed by her. Cancel culture is disgusting.

Cancel culture is disgusting. once again, his antics have been well known and documented, this is just the first time stan internet culture has cared. also he definitely hasn't moved on or changed. within the last few days he gave an interview where he showed no remorse and insulted people trying to hold him accountable. However, he has to admit to those mistakes and make apologies for the vitriol he's put out in the world—of which he has made zero efforts to do. In fact, he's stoking the flames by making more gross comments. All this and Taylor Swift is being complacent and ignoring these massive red flags. I'm assuming she's letting this happen so she has something to write about on her next album. LG7我们真的来喽(゜▽゜)🎉

People are going a bit overboard with Matty (he's not a neo nazi and calling him one is absurd). However, Matty has also said dumb, hateful **** for the past ten years (some of it was as little as six months ago!). This is not a case of Matty saying hateful **** ten years ago, but then being fine for the most part since then. There definitely are a lot of stars who ****ed up and did what would now be 'cancelled' a decade ago, but most of those stars don't have a decade long track record like Matty. It was more like a few f*cked up things that they seemed to have learned and grown from. And when faced with his decade long track record, Matty basically went 'y'all suck'. It's not like he has a few skeletons in his closet (which would still be bad, but many stars used to be ****ed up and then cleaned up their act). He has a 10 year track record of saying heinous stuff (some if less than six months ago). And the 'apology' made it even worse. All she had to do was just have her publicist be like 'oh, he was at her show because they're working together on music' and it could have been explained away. Lorde was like 18 when they first started working together, and he was in his early 30s.....I just remember she was like following him around constantly, wearing a wedding dress when she performed with him, there were tons of photos of them seemingly hanging out in their 'off' time, and he was engaged the entire time to Lena. TLDR: It didn't seem like colleagues, or even friendly colleagues I'm not trying to take away Lorde's agency, but in my experience straight men who are 30+ who hang around 18-20 yr olds are usually weirdos. Future Lovers 6,513
Gonna say this, probably gonna get quoted a bunch, go ahead i'm not gonna engage in discourse. As a Swiftie, I'm incredibly disappointed by this whole thing and contrary to what many will want to believe, a lot of other Swifties are too. She has been facing more criticism from her fans than she ever has in the history of her career. There is legitimate reason to criticize, the feelings are valid and I have my own. I've openly criticized her decision making on the Matty **** from the moment it was unravelling. She is 100% in every way completely earning and deserving of criticism for this and I want that to be remembered before I go on. That being said, this whole conversation has been highjacked to the point that it's no longer even productive to be having it. Instead of having the sort of conversation that needed to be had, this subject just invited everyone who hates her to rush to the front and scream from their top of their lungs because they finally had something big to weaponize. The minute that happened, all nuance to this subject was taken out of it and it's become just another stan war. Yes, her being with him is disappointing, yes I wish to god that she would hear what her fans are saying about it (but she won't because of the conversation mentioned above being so much louder; that is what she'll hear, and the traumatic experiences of 2015-2017 will mean she will defensively tune it out and not hear what people who're not just out to relentlessly attack her are trying to say). I wish it wasn't happening at all. I believe she is a strong support of the LGBTQ+ community, that she is a supporter of feminism, that she is a supporter of equality. She's put her money and time where her mouth is more than once, and not even always in front of a camera like some people like to claim. But I also know that she is a privileged individual who lives in the bubble of celebrity and is likely incredibly out of touch with some basic every day realities just like every single celebrity on the face of the planet--yes, even the ones you like--are. I don't think in her mind being with him contradicts her activism or her positions on matters, and if that did register then I don't think we'd be here. That is a problem, that's something that needs to change. She is in need of some further education on a lot of things, but she isn't gonna get it from dog piling and everyone who's doing it knows that. Legitimately criticizing her being with him? Pointing out that it contradicts her past statements and stances> Valid. I've been doing it. Blaming her for things he says and does, falsely equating his actions with hers, etc? Unhelpful. None of it his helpful. It is not valid. It does nothing positive for the conversation, does absolute jack **** for the people who're really being affected by his remarks, and makes everyone who's pretending to defend those people imapcted by Matty's words look foolish because it's clear they don't actually care and just are enjoying the freedom they now have to say whatever they want about her. So many of the voices speaking are people pretending to care just so they can say whatever, just like what always happens in situations like this. Hopefully, in the end, this can be a learning opportunity and hopefully she does eventually hear what the people who have legitimate concerns and criticisms are saying. She's let her bubble be burst before and learned and grew from it, and there's nothing to suggest that can't and won't happen again. But all of the people who're jumping into this conversation just because they want a free pass to take a punch, you're really not on the better side of the line. You're contributing to the problem. I’m tired of people trying to shout cancel culture left and right as an attempt to excuse complacency and ignorance from someone they admire. She’s rightfully facing criticism for choosing to have a relationship with a bigot. Plain and simple. That’s literally what all of you say. Criticizing someone without full context is literally the basis of cancel culture. I’m tired too but let’s keep acting that everyone criticizing public figures behind their keyboards is a moral angel.
