I love The Little Mermaid, but guuurl lol….the story is about a girl giving up what makes her unique to fit into a man’s basic world. Not exactly the best message for young girls.

A mans world is basic to you because you are part of it, but to Ariel, the sea world is the basic one.

You say she gave up what makes her unique, but Ariel doesnt value or care about her unique voice, she cares about exploring another worlds.

It's well established by now that Ariel has been re-examined in the modern age and more people now realise she was interested in being human before Eric even came on the scene and she was actually the first Disney princess who was proactive and craved independence (which was even picked up on by Siskel & Ebert when they reviewed it at the time). She even saves Eric not once but twice, again being the first Disney princess to do so. She was also the first to spend some amount of time with her love interest first and it looked like even if Ariel never spoke, Eric would probably have fallen in love with her anyway because of her charm and the way she communicated her emotions.

Honestly, I thought we were past the point of acting like fairytales send a bad message to kids. Most of us grew up with Disney and up until fairly recently, almost all of them ended in a marriage. But plenty of people have never been married and don't want to, or have/want kids either. And even those who do also know there's more to life and have more dreams than just that. And even if they do want that traditional life, as long as that's what they genuinely want, live and let live. Fairytales aren't as impactful on young minds as we like to think they are. We really need to give children more credit. If you didn't believe in these messages when you grew up, why would you think your children would either?

lol, where exactly does she „slam the movie“? If even she slams the story of the movie/the message. She literally says the acting and casting is great (that’s what a movie is, the realization of a story). And I know you just quoted the post from PopCrave, but people really should actually start reading what is said and don’t get so pressed all the time for reasons that aren’t even stated.
