Anyone else feel like gay actors should be prioritized when casting gay roles? :/

Gay actors exist . There’s fewer gay roles than there are straight roles.  Give gay ppl jobs they’re entitled to.  I know it’s “acting” and the whole point of acting is playing a character and not playing yourself- however, when the actor and the character share important characteristics I think that is a benefit and should be embraced.  At the end of the day, LGBTQ ppl are still minorities, therefore, we should be included, especially when it’s more than appropriate/obvious.

Yep we can say "well its acting isnt it" but it doesn't sit right with me that straight actors get to capitalise on gay content, especially with something that will probably be somewhat trauma based like this project (love story set in 1930s)

Yeah, they go and earn award nominations and win awards and recognition and do interviews about “how they got into character” blah blah .  Like… come on :saladga:  we exist. We aren’t just “characters” .

Controversial opinion: no.
the majority of gay movies are honestly unbearable and cringy. I’d much prefer hiring talent over sexuality. If they happen to be gay, great. We are talking about actors being paid to act. Not reality tv.

Welcome to capitalism. It's always about the most profitable or marketable option

Gay actors exist but the pool of very famous gay actors is a lot smaller and if they want a famous face and they are thinking about the $$$$$$ they don't give a $hit 👀

However I dont think this necessarily prevents gay actors from getting roles tho. The same way some straight actors sometimes do gay acting, gay actors will also get straight scenes also. It's interchangable

there are talented gay actors. straight actors are not the only ones with talent. your comment kind of implied the contrary.  the gay actors are not the ones writing the gay movies that you find unbearable and cringy. and there are straight movies that are unbearable and cringy with not so talented straight actors as well.

but my point was that LGBTQ roles are less frequent than straight roles and the majority of the time we see openly straight actors acting. whether they're playing straight or playing gay. we see that more often than we see openly LGBTQ actors acting. whether they're playing straight or playing gay.  so if an LGBTQ role is up for hiring- be inclusive and hire the most talented actor within that minority group.

you brought up capitalism, Economy, and I know, im aware that it doesn't come down to talent. it comes down to star power and who you know.  lets allow LGBTQ actors to have the same level of star power as straight actors.  @TEETHTEETH - since you brought up the point about talent v. the actors sexuality.
