Anyone who's listened to literally any of his music (especially his early work) should not be surprised by this lmao

The standing ovation for x amounts of minutes in every Cannes film festival showing is so stupid to me. That gets tacked on everything.

Because it’s usually telling. 5 minutes is not very favorable at Cannes. Now some massively successful and acclaimed films have gotten 5 or less at Cannes, even some boos, but ovations that short there usually are bad news.

Dissapointed by the change from the original intentions of the series. But I’ll definitely be giving it a shot ONLY because this is Ramsey’s acting debut :holdmyhand:

LITERALLY ... and when they're like "x movie got a 17 minute standing ovation!" I am like did those people ACTUALLY stand and clap for that long because that is so ridiculous

I get that, but why even do they even clap and stand and that long for something that sucks?

Anyone who calls themselves a fan of The Weeknd and finds themselves shocked by this show and its reception needs to revisit his music :alsemanche:

Literally everything he's put out has been simultaneously a critique and a celebration of the seedy, drugged up underbelly of Hollywood/America - not saying I either love or hate his work, but his point of view has been clear for YEARS :ororomunroe:

I read someone comment about how they think erotic thrillers can’t be appreciated like they used to be because of modern day values. But that makes little sense because the ones from the 80s/90s still hold up and aren’t that offensive. Maybe Sam Levinson is just not that good at his job? He is great and sensationalism though.

It’s just an easy way for people to try and uphold their toxic views. Erotic thrillers can 100% be made today still and be amazing, r@pey toxic ones won’t (like this)

Courtesy. It used to be more common for booing to happen at Cannes when it wasn’t enjoyed but the festival has been trying to curb that because it looks bad and people don’t want to get disinvited.

The ovations when they’re short are usually more applauding the effort than the success. It’s very much the festival equivalent to a participation trophy.
